Hi! I'm currently a high school Senior, completing my file for admission. I just wanted to talk to any other guys/girls applying this year, as well as anyone that could offer any guidance. Thanks!

I am currently a senior and finished my application as well as received a LOA. I'd love to talk about any questions you may have about the admissions process.

Congratulations on the LOA! I aim to have submitted all of my components, minus the CFA, by this weekend. Only reason I'm holding off on the CFA is because it's football season, and I'm coming off a sprained ankle. But everything will be taken care of before Christmas Break.

Just a few questions for you:
What was your take on the CFA? How did you perform? And do you know how much "weight" it has on the application?

Have you heard back from your Congressman/Senators regarding nominations? I've interviewed with two over the past week, one more this week.

Talking to someone going through the same process definitely helps with the stress.

Thanks! If I am correct I believe the CFA is more a pass/fail. That being said with the process being so competitive I do believe they look at individual results. A strong performance will only help you, and barely passing might not be good enough. If you were to focus on specific tests I would definitely try and do the best on the run and push ups, as you will be doing a lot of both come plebe summer! As for weight academics and leadership will always come before; I don't know what effect outstanding scores will have, but as I said they can only help.

I live in NY so I heard back from my local congresswoman and have an interview soon, but I have not heard back from my senators and I don't know if they even have made final selections for interviews.

Have you been down to Annapolis? I'll be visiting a weekend in December, my guidance counselor told me it would help the application as well.

As for my personal performance these were my results if I remember correctly:

Basketball throw: 78 ft
Shuttle run: 7.8 seconds
Pull ups: 11
Push ups: 70
Sit ups: 90
Mile: 5:20

I have visited multiple times. I have know since early on this was a school I wanted to go to. I first took a tour my freshman year. I attended summer seminar in June which was a great experience, and then I attended a candidate visit weekend in September. If this is the visit you are referring to then yes definitely go if you can. In my opinion the CVW gives you a far greater picture of academy life than summer seminar. I sat in on calculus and computer classes and actually got to see what classes are like (most midshipmen are away during summer seminar). Basically whatever your Midshipman you are paired with does you will do. I highly recommend it.

Thanks, definitely something to look into. I'm excited as this process continues, we'll find out by March/April/May regarding appointments?

Most candidates will find out by late winter/early spring if they will receive an appointment. It is a rolling admissions process, so technically you can receive an appointment at any time (as long as you have a nomination and are medically qualified). Most nominations are given out in December and January (I believe that nominations are due by the members of congress January 31) so the bulk of appointments will be given out in the few months after then. Pretty much all appointments are awarded through April, however there are always a few cases of candidates receiving one in May.

I am a high school senior. I am a candidate for admission for USNA, USAFA, USMA, and USCGA. The only things I need to do for USNA are submit my CFA scores, do my medical review which is scheduled for this coming Monday, and somehow drive 300 miles to do my BGO interview.

What week did you attend NASS? My DS was there June 1-6. You are correct about the CVW giving you a better feel for what it is like. He went in Oct, but it was during the shut down and he only got to go to a history class. It was also Air Force week and was crazy. Looks like Gillibrand just started sending out notices yesterday. Our local has not started yet.

Regarding BGO interviews - I just sent my interviewer an email, awaiting a response. However, her area code indicates she lives in Virginia, and I'm in Rhode Island. I'm curious as to why she would be assigned a candidate such a distance away.

I'm also completing NROTC and ROTC scholarship applications, but by far aiming for USNA.

I attended week one of NASS. As far as the BGO interview that surprises me that yours would be so far away. I don't know how BGOs are distributed nationwide, but mine lived half an hour away and the interview was conducted at my home.

Faststreet, assuming you are from NY, what district are you and how is Gillibrand notifying those who will be interviewed?

While your Congressman may not operate the same way, I was notified I had been selected for an interview within 1-2 weeks of submitting my materials to that Congressman's office.

Same thing happened to me last year; lived in RI, assigned BGO with a Utah area code. It turned out it was because that was his cell phone number and he was from there, he was actually stationed in Newport. So she's probably close to your neck of the woods as well.

I have the same issue. I live in Big Bend National Park, and my BGO has an El Paso area code.

My USAFA ALO has told me that there is a BGO in San Angelo which is quite a bit closer to me than El Paso. I'm hoping that he is somewhere close because I never go to El Paso, and I really don't want to make a 700 mile round trip for a 30-60 minute interview.

I have emailed him and have not received a response yet.

I would not fret having to drive an unreasonable distance if your BGO is nowhere close (as might be in your situation)...other means can be worked out for the interview.

Mid2018, we are 24th district, Syracuse. DS just got notified by local MOC of interviews for USNA and AFA on Dec 7th. Not sure about Gillibrand. Look at the other posters. Saw someone that just got a notification from her office.
