Candidate Review Panel Evaluation

Thanks for the response, but does a file that was deemed "Not offered an appointment" by the CCEB sent forward to the Admissions Committee?

USCGA seems to be more judicious with the DODMERB process to only move forward with qualified applicants rather than paying to screen everyone
I don't want to read more into this than you intend, but do I correctly infer that admissions does an initial screen, as in a "fully qualified" screen, before even referring an applicant to DODMERB? In other words, do a substantial number of applicants who submit complete applications NOT get referred to DODMERB? If that is correct, then DODMERB referral seems like a significant (though obviously not dispositive) milestone in the USCGA application process.

Now that is a very interesting question. I would also be interested in the answer.

The Dir of Operations told us the cost to USCGA is $200 per applicant and that they only have so many screenings they can use, so they use them wisely. It makes sense to me that DODMERB should come later in the screening process to save the GOV $ on candidates that are either not serious or not qualified. I've long wondered why the other SA rush to get all applicants screened - this approach by USCGA makes the most sense to me - as a grad, as an ALO, and as a taxpayer.

He indicated that almost all of the EA offers for appointment are conditional because the candidate has not been scheduled or has not completed DODMERB and for parents not to worry about whether this has been completed or not at this phase of the process.

In the absence of immediate feedback on the process, we are always looking for positive indicators and negative indicators. For USCGA, a DODMERB screening does sound like a positive step forward. The absence however does not appear to be a negative at this phase of the cycle.

~60% will have an interview request. I was shocked to learn that participation in the interview is optional. They did not indicate that the candidate file would be negatively impacted by declining the interview, but that sometimes they just want to learn more about the candidate that was not covered in the other data points they have on file. I left the briefing impressed by the amount of time they spend on the candidate file. As a USAFA ALO, I was told each candidate gets a 2min look by the admissions panel. This makes sense with the number of completed applications they receive and the same time frame in which to review as USCGA.

USCGA said they spend 30mins, and the path to TWE had multiple stops to ensure that was the right call for the candidate.

The new Director of Admissions is one of those stops and he was quite impressive. He went to prep school TWICE before getting in, and because of his journey, he extends the offer to speak to any non-appoint candidate to discuss their personal path forward.

I agree. And to support that (and not be pedantic), they told us at the most recent Bears day the split
There are more outcomes than this. #4 is deferred to General Admissions Cycle for a second round of competition for appointment. EA receives roughly 600 applications, while GA receives roughly 1300. With ~230 slots to give in the cycle, USCGA seeks to fill those slots proportionately and give roughly 30% of slots to EA and and 70% in GA. (per admissions this week).

I would have sworn that I heard those percentages almost reversed at the late-November Bears Day - 60% from EA and 40% from GA.

I agree. We've met with Captain Fredie a few times and he is nothing but friendly and approachable. Come to think of it, everyone we've spoken to during the admissions process has been the same.

I've heard that a committee will be reviewing applications early next week. They have probably already evaluated many, but I'm just relaying what I heard.

Three weeks ago I received this email message "Your record has been scheduled for review in Early Action and will be forwarded to the Cadet Candidate Evaluation Board in the next two weeks." Earlier this week I was informed my file was going before committee next week.

Is committee next step in the process after Cadet Candidate Evaluation Board or is Board and Committee same entity and process is just behind schedule?

Back to the OP, my son got the "you're in" call yesterday during school and showed me this morning that there has been no corresponding update to his Bear's Den Application Checklist. I wouldn't worry too much about all that. I'm sure these good folks are focusing much more on more important things than updating the portal.

I did ask my son if he could have imagined the phone call and all this - he replied with no words, just a very "dirty" look for the ol' man
