Hi all, I’ll be attending the Candidate Visit Weekend (CVW) on September 19th and was wondering if anyone had any useful tips or words of advice before I attend. All candidates attending CVW feel free to respond to this post as well as prior candidates and/or plebes. Any parents or previous or current cadets would be of so much help. Any candidates who are attending on the same date, reach out!

One of my close friends whom I met through the USCGA AIM Program will also be attending on the same day. Will I ever get a chance to hangout with her as well and the other candidates or will I mainly just be with the plebe I am shadowing? Also, anything in particular I should pack? I also read on other threads about packing snacks for the MIDDIES and the plebe I am shadowing. How about the CFA? Any tips on the CFA? Any answers to these questions would be appreciated!

THANK YOU ALL!!!

First thing, don’t call them Middies. Snacks are not required, they would be appreciated. You would see your friend at a minimum during the intro briefing. There are tons and tons of old CVW threads that has tons of review and Q&A. As far as the CFA, practice under test like conditions. That is the only way to know where you really are.

I'm sorry, I'm not as well informed about stuff like that. Why aren't we allowed to call them Middies? I saw it from another thread. As for the CFA, I will start to prepare for it. Thank you.

They are Mids. Hard to explain. But it’s one of those nicknames that isn’t embraced.

I’ll be at the same CVW!

Not Middies

Also not Cadets

Have a great time, and use it to really learn about life as a Midshipman. It’s your opportunity to see what it’s really like to attend USNA.

Youngster here (I hosted like a billion CVW), the best kids I had actually told me what they wanted to see, and wouldn't leave me guessing or wasting time. You don't have as much free time to show the candidates around, so its really nice when they want to see like the Engineering building, or the wrestling room or something like that. Just ask your plebe to take you to see your friend, they wont care, or if they do, that's too bad. It's our job to show you around so don't feel bad. Last point, this one may sound weird but it happens, don't make fun of your plebe for having to do plebe things. I had a few kids do this. One, your hoping your going to be a plebe, and two its just gets old. I had a kid non stop make fun of us plebes for walking the straight paths all weekend and it got old. Best of luck, its a great time.

Good gouge. Thanks for paying it forward.
