Candidate Visitors Weekend

My daughter just called out to admissions to ask about a visit, the man she talked to looked at her file and told her he would send an invite. We just got the email to come and visit.....ok!!! what does this mean? Should we spend the money to go? (we live in Wisconsin) Are we wasting our time if she does not get an appointment?? advice please?
 
Definitly go. I'm going in March, and my family is making it into a spring break vacation. With Washington so close and all the things to do, they'll be entertained while I'm at the academy. And if your d does get an appointment, she'll want to have an idea of what she's getting into. Good Luck.
 
Absolutely GO!!!! Our son was offered CVW a few months back but had to put it on hold due to scheduling conflicts. So far, he has not rescheduled although I wish he would -- 17-year-olds can be so frustrating sometimes. We live local and have been to the Academy many, many times as well as his NJROTC unit from school. He has a couple of friends at the academy currently. He feels he knows what he is getting himself into. I see it as an opportunity for more information. If he receives his appointment soon, he will orderd by mom to attend a CVW.
 
Are CVWs only on certain dates? I was unable to find a schedule on the academy's website. Son's BGO thought that the CVW program had concluded for this year, and that an admissions briefing (which we attended last summer) was all that was available currently.
 
Go to USNA.edu and on the left hand column click calendar. Then click public calendar. It looks like they CVW starts up again at the end of March after spring break .
 
According to the invitation i received, there are three more CVW for this spring:
25-27 March
15-17 April
22-24 April​

Anything to make them happy...probably something they cannot have on a regular basis like cookies or something! :shake:

My current Midn attended a CVW in April 2008, coinciding with his HS Spring Break.....even thou he had attended USNA's Summer Seminar the CVW proved to be very enlightening and worthwhile....there was an excellent welcoming brief (open to parents as well)on the arrival evening (Thursday?) before the 100+ candidates(drags) departed for Bancroft with their assigned plebe ... overall he got an eye-opening awareness of how stressful plebe year experiences would be from listening to actual plebes describe their year at USNA. So , if at all possible, try to attend a CVW
..... a few homebaked cookies to share with stressed plebe roommates will definitely be appreciated.

Btw- Plebes assigned drags for a CVW are granted some temporary but appreciated "carry-on " privledges (no chopping, meal calls, etc) during the weekend visit :thumb:

DD went last weekend of Feb and on the way home said "I know I said I would give it 3 days before deciding but I've already made up my mind - I'm going to the Academy." The deciding factor was the comradeship she witnessed within the Company. Also, she realized that she could do the work (she went to a chem lab and calc class) but more importantly, the kids manage to have fun - within limits of course - even though testing was going on (she took a calc test) and the PRT was that Sat.

As parents we got a indoc - not really any new info. Our tour on Friday was just OK - weather was windy and very cold so it was abbreviated. But the afternoon tour of the science and engineering facilities was very impressive. We have toured many campuses and they all rave about their engineering labs but none can compare to USNA (your tax dollars at work!). Cornell came closest so saying they're getting an Ivy League education is not a stretch - at least from the facilities.

We haven't received the snail mail itinerary yet. What time does the program end on Saturday?
 
Between 1100 and 1200 depending on the Mid's schedule. If you need to leave before then there's really no reason you can't. There are no organized activities for the candidates or parents - its just them and their new friends doing what plebes do on a Sat morning.
 
We've been tossing this back and forth. My son's BGO said it wasn't necessary to request a CVW due to his NASS attendance. Any thoughts on this?
 
CVW is Golden

If it is not at all financially difficult...I strongly suggest that your MID goes as it opens up a totally new perspective on the matter that NASS might not show. Especially important if your MID is still on the fence about whether to invest 9 years of her life...this would surely help. :thumb:
