Cannabis

Granted it was some years ago, but I had several classmates tossed because of weed. Others were more discreet. But there wasn't a lot (any?) of testing back then.

The ironic thing as far as the military is that booze is the substance that has caused the major problems.

Federal prisons, the brigs, court martial s, assaults, fights, domestic violence , auto deaths or injuries, and what do you see connecting so many of these

booze

And as far as the VA and the costs there , it’s going to be booze and cigs , which have drained so many millions for Rx.

And in many places now MJ is being used as a legit Rx and prescribed by medical'
professionals.

Once you get to the Academy, I highly recommend you quit smoking week. You will be drug tested within 48 hours of your arrival to indoc. Plus throughout the year there are random drug tests that happen as well as premployment drug tests for sea year. You will get caught, and the academy and navy have zero tolerance for it.

Yeah it's not federally legal, so no.

Look I don't think weed is bad for you (it's not) but if the military says "no you can't smoke it, it's illegal" then don't smoke it. Plain and simple.

Alcohol and tobacco are widely used, yes, but they are federally legal.

I'm old enough to remember when it seemed going through Alky Rehab was a requirement to make Senior and Master Chief. Unfortunately that changed when I became eligible and had to make it the hard way. Except 9. They kicked me out before then.

Doc I realize the times have changed and are changing as far as booze.

I remember being in boot camp in the early 60s and losing our DI because of being arrested while really drunk.

I remember in corps school our , company non com in charge , staggering back to his apt so drunk , virtually every night, students had to often help carry him back. A case of beer a night some said.

And I don’t think anyone thought this was particularly unusual.

Booze though did have the advantage of keeping the emergency room Docs busy.

Maybe the most famous drunk while on duty in the history of the USMC.

Tried to let this go, but can't. You are ill-informed if you think marijuana is not bad for you. We are just learning about all the carcinogens, and the effects on everything from your respiratory system to your digestive system, your immune system, your circulatory system, your brain function, and your liver can be dramatic and long lasting for regular users. The effects on your reaction time and your judgement are as great or greater than alcohol and are resulting in an increasing number of DUI injuries and deaths where marijuana has been decriminalized on the state level. You can call me whatever names you want to make yourself feel better, but the bottom line is that I don't want my kids on a ship around heavy machinery with a pothead.

OK i'd argue with you, but this isn't the place for it. To be honest, I shouldn't have even made the post I made above ^
