I was asked this question today--someone thought they'd heard that CAP member don't usually get picked for summer seminar because they "already been introduced to the military"? This was the first time I've heard that one, so I thought I'd ask the experts!

Hmmm, I don't think this is true. There was a kid in my element that was in CAP and many others I met were in CAP also.

I know a CAP cadet who was accepted to all three of the summer seminars and another who was accepted to NASS, but I'm a CAP cadet that wasn't accepted to any of them :frown:

Daughter (Potterfan) was in CAP from her Soph year. She attended Teen Av Camp sponsored by AF Services for interested military dependents her Soph to Junior summer. Was selected for NASS and AFSS her Junior to Senior summer and attended both. Only reason she didn't do West Point was the App went in to late.

Tell your friend to apply and go if offered. It will provide a chance to glimpse the place from the inside.

Well, being this section of the forum is an "AIR FORCE ACADEMY" section, the "CORRECT" response should have been: "I know a CAP cadet that was accepted to the "only" summer seminar that matters; Air Force". mike....

If this were true, no JROTC, Sea Cadet, Young Marine, or USACC member would be able to apply to an SS either. The academies actually encourage these kind of activities and they would definitely make you have a better chance of being selected to attend an SS.

LOL!

CAP and summer seminar

Not true. I know of several CAP kids from our area that got into summer seminar.

My son's a Naval Sea Cadet and has the same chances as any qualified candidate. Several kids from his unit over the years have gone to Air Force SS as well as NASS
