Capital Gazette Article

Wanted to share this article that I found today. This will definitely be a unique summer!
.
Well .... the article is inaccurate to start. ~200 plebes arrived today. I reached my free limit. I can’t read the rest.

Can someone else tell me what the rest of it says?
.

From the article—Midshipmen Development Center posted on Instagram a series of snack suggestions that midshipmen could eat during ROM. Does that mean plebes can bring snacks?

It says the plebes are arriving starting on Monday which is mostly true, except the NAPSters came yesterday. The full article also mentions the staggered receptions. It gives a little bit of info from interviews with Dr. Sapperstein one of the top medical officers on the Yard, CDR Laing the Plebe Summer OIC, and CDR Reese the director of the MDC counseling center. You can just clear your browser’s cookies and refresh, then it should reset your article limit. It’s a good read for people curious as to how different Plebe Summer will be this year.

They started yesterday, so the four (4) mini I-days are Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.

Might be splitting hairs, and probably doesn't matter...but is the reporting 4 days including NAPS on Sunday, or 4 days in addition to NAPS on Sunday? NAPS has always (at least since '81) reported early. I have always looked at this as giving USNA a trial run to exercise its process before the I day crunch.

What day do they actually swear in, upon reporting or upon conclusion of the ROM ? I thought I had heard that occured on completion of the ROM, but from a legal perspective, I would think that they have to be sworn in and formally inducted into the Navy on the day of reporting ... without that, are they really subject to the UCMJ or Midshipman regulations, and entitled to medical benefits ?

Well, they are restricted and in quarantine, so I would guess that they would all swear in together AFTER their quarantine (ROM) is over.
Purely a guess, on my part.

If I had to guess... they will sign the oath on their I Day and then take a formal oath as a Platoon after. Hopefully Kierkegaard can provide details.

Pretty accurate. Technically there’s no “I-Day” this year. We have “Reception Days” this week where the mid candidates get processed in and begin ROM. I suspect that the inprocessing on R-Day includes signing several contracts, which are typically done before they leave Alumni Hall on a normal I-Day. Then after ROM they’ll have “Oath Day” on July 17th when they’ll take the Oath of Office in the classic T-Court Ceremony, which should be live streamed online. Supposedly they’ve figured out how to hold one ceremony for the whole 4/C Regiment with adequate distance between the thirty companies.
