Hello everyone,

My initial questions would be were any charges files against you as a result of the accident. If so, what were the charges?

I'll be the first to admit that I have never been part of a selection board, so can not paint a definitive picture of how this might possibly impact the assessment of your application package. However, I would not think that civil charges for a traffic accident have a significant impact to your application. I'm sure more experienced members of this board let us know if my assumption is incorrect...

That said, don't try to hide it from the selection board - accurately record the issue on your application and quickly respond to any questions that may arise from it.

It was recorded as a civil crime and the inability to control my vehicle.

The wording you use would suggest alcohol may have been involved and you or your parents got the charge reduced. Apologies if I'm off base.

In any case, you're on a slippery slope. IMHO

Lol. Have you ever had any experience with traffic court and/or juvenile traffic court? Failure to control is a pretty common offense and is generally not a talked-down DUI.

OP, you'll probably be fine. Keep good records (especially of points assessed on your license, etc.)

Nice to hear from you again.

Funny though, the OP didn't refute my suggestion... did they? "LOL"

Why is it necessary to refute your allegations? Someone has already responded that you are probably wrong in your assumptions and allegations. If I alleged you were a child molestor, would you need to refute it to prove you were not?

Let's make sure we keep it civil gentlemen. No one's crossed a line yet but I thought I'd get ahead of it.

I got into a car accident when I was 16 along with a citation.
I reported it and received an appointment this march. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I was in an accident and got a ticket for failure to yield to a stop sign shortly after I got my license, but was put on differed sentencing and went the year without a ticket, so it was not recorded on my record. Should mention this in my application or not?

Which isn't included in your record, the accident, the ticket or both ? If the ticket wasn't recorded on your record, then it never happened.

The ticket. I'm not sure where/why there would be a record of an accident with no ticket attached. Their was an insurance payout

If it is asked, you should answer honestly, especially if there was alcohol or other drug involvement (apparently not, so that brightens this picture quite a bit). Do NOT try to downplay or hide any aspect of the accident (again, if they ask for info), but tell it straightforwardly, truthfully.

Lots of kids have accidents, esp in the "failure to control" genre, as young drivers. My sons were involved in at least two accidents, while at USAFA. Many many people have had fender-benders, or worse, so - things happen.

The bad thing to do would be to lie. DO NOT LIE.

By the very definition of the word there is no intent to cause damage to property during a traffic accident. Also, officers use "inability to control vehicle" as a causative factor in an accident when no other violation is evident (ran stop sign, ran red light, etc.). You're fine, don't lose sleep over an accident.

My friend has got into a similar situation recently. He decided to hide that story about ticket, but then he got even more problems. Therefore, it is better to never lie.

I would also add that this thread is over three years old. I'm sure the participants have either:
