Hi, I am applying for USCGA this fall and I had a few questions about whether my application will be worth it or not. I have a congenital heart defect, a bicuspid valve with mild leakage. The cardiologist says this should have no effect on my athletics or ability to withstand physical pressures. I realise this can be waived conditionally but I have one other minor problem that might make it tricky.
A year ago I had a few short minutes long episodes of SVT, I immediately got an echocardiogram etc, and they recommended an ablation to cure it. I received the ablation a year ago and have no symptoms whatsoever, even with my athletic regimen. This was completely unrelated to the valve.
Will these incidents disqualify me completely from attending? Is it worth it to go through with the application and apply for a waiver if considered?
Thanks!
