Care Packages to USNA

Back in the day "basic" was a black hole. Yes, we were required to send a letter home to say we were alive, but a package from home, in your dreams. I also was a "rogue" (three years and then enlisted) and it did not go over well.

As you new parents begin to prepare & send care packages to your Plebes, there are International Students & others who may not have the family support or family ability to send them comforts and treats from home.
Just a reminder that you can mail an extra care package to:

Any Plebe
Attn: Chaplains Center
101 Cooper Rd
Annapolis, MD 21402

Their offices work closely with the Detailers to distribute packages to those who may not otherwise receive one.
I also often sent a large box of granola bars or fruit snacks from Sam's to my Mid adding a note to share with his Company.
And Detailers like to get treats too. ;)

our Chiefs' mess at fort meade is also donating enough snacks for the whole plebe class through the chaplains office, i got the green light yesterday!

My DD was 1st Company: "Best thing is: First Company always forms up in the shade on the parade ground"

My DS is in first regiment at USMA, my DD is in fourth regiment. Our son will be hanging out with us relaxing, weapon turned in, and our DD won't even be off the parade field.

Silly question but what do plebes sleep in? Would pj’s and fuzzy slippers in a care package be put to use? Soft blanket? Flip flops? What are plebes allowed in terms of room decor? Small flag ok? Trying to think of something else to send other than snacks. I don’t have a plebe .... yet ..... just saw the post about care packages for those who don’t get anything.

Food, gift cards, amazon cards, etc are the most appreciated. What they can have as far as the other stuff mentioned really isn’t practical, although a kind thought. Each company has different standards as far as what plebes are allowed. And beyond that, plebes are very specific in what they DO want...fitting in, stuff to store (storage is a premium and they have to move a lot. It’s a chore to haul extra ‘stuff’), etc.

If you are talking about only sending stuff during their 6 week plebe summer indoctrination period? Then they absolutely cannot have any of the other stuff you mentioned. Only snacks.

I'm not sure what Plebes sleep in - never thought to ask mine - but Plebes are not allowed civilian clothes unless they're on leave (not liberty). I am fairly certain they're issued shower-type shoes (slides), so no need for flip flops. They're also issued a blanket, but I have seen on the forums where some Plebes wanted softer blankets after Plebe Summer. Mine hasn't asked for one. They can have a small flag in their room - in fact, it's encouraged - a desktop type - but most of them come with one.

Snacks are always welcome by the Plebes, especially in the era of grab-n-go from King Hall - supplemental snacks are important - mine likes protein bars. However, mine has also asked for more (or bought himself at the Midstore): Tide pens (probably not as important now that summer whites have been retired for fall), Tide packets (the wash-in-the-sink type), medium-sized trash can liners, duct tape, Navy-related or patriotic-related stickers for their computer, extra pin backs (frogs...for their nametags), GrubHub / DoorDash / Chipotle gift cards, and cleaning supplies (wipes, glass cleaner, hand soap, paper towels, etc.) As @justdoit19 mentioned, most of this applies after Plebe Summer.

Mine has asked for protein bars and more protein bars. And a few more on the side. They get tons of candy/baked goods and have a difficult time finding friends to share because everyone has extras.

I think 99% of plebes sleep in "USNA's" (issued gym shorts) and Blue Rims. If they have to go to the head in the middle of the night, they just head that way.

Really? They can have a car on campus? (Newbie here sorry)

Senior year can be parked on Yard. 2/c year, off-Yard.

At the time, Yard parking was limited due to Hopper Hall construction. Their Company held a lottery. Everyone who wanted parking contributed to a fund to subsidize those who didn’t get to park on the Yard and had to park at the stadium.

“Seasonal construction variation,” thank you. Same thing happened when Wesley Brown was being built and other major construction projects that require big perimeters and material laydown areas.

The "Diggers and the Fillers" strike again.

There is a long established scientific law on display at USNA. The number of Holes in the Yard does not change, the holes may move about the geography but the actual number of holes is a constant.
