Care packages ---what to send next!

In yesterday's phone call Son said he had enough "supplies" - just send food.

My daughter will be reporting for second session around the 22nd. She already asked her mother if she would send down care packages if some of her plebes are not receiving any. It does happen for a variety of reasons. You can ask your plebe if someone in the company is not receiving anything and send an extra now and then.

Hi Everyone,

My plebe and his roomate were caught studying in one bunk together and the other plebe got moved out of the room. Yikes, I never heard of getting in trouble for studying.

It may be the reason they got into trouble was not that they were studying, but that they were in the bunk together. I'm pretty sure that's a big no-no.

AF6872, I hope your daughter is my son's detailer! LOL I know they have to push the Plebes hard and give them a rough time to help them to become military men/women. Don't mind that at all, but I do think it is important for the detailers to demonstrate good leadership ability by showing that, even though they expect a lot, they also care about their charges and believe they can make it.

DS also said SEND FOOD during his phone call. I sent him what I thought would be a week's worth in his first package. He said it was gone in one night. He said please send enough for his whole squad...does he think I can afford to feed +/-10, very hungry USNA plebes? Well, I guess he's remembering that I fed 4 or 5 of his friends in addition to my 3 teens on a regular basis at home...So I'd better get busy packing up some protein bars, dried fruit, goldfish and power drink powder packets. He did say to make sure things were wrapped in air-tight packages. Oh, he also said his company was picky about what they could receive, then in the next breath he asked for some candy!? Oh well, guess I'll send some Sour Skittles.

Great to hear all of the good ideas and funny stories about what our kids want to eat. Do you think it would be ok for me to send a package of Starbursts? DS said the first care package was fine and he was allowed to keep everything, but I hadn't sent any candy....just wondering.

I would say go ahead and send them. From what I read the worst that will happen is the candy will be taken away, or they will be made to share it. I'm not going to send a bunch of junkfood, just a few bites added in with all the healthy stuff to give his mouth some happiness! Hopefully that will be okay. Son said others had gotten to keep some candy, so we'll see.

Hi Everyone,

We got our letter yesterday and the last two words in all CAPS said, "SEND FOOD!" My plebe and his roomate were caught studying in one bunk together and the other plebe got moved out of the room. Yikes, I never heard of getting in trouble for studying.

How do you fit two dudes in one rack?

Thanks for all the great ideas! DS told me "no more care packages" on the phone and in his letter today said, "Thank you for all the boxes. Now I can survive a nuclear assault on Annapolis. There is enough candy in there (skittles) to last the Academic year as well. Thank you for the flashlights, but I won't be using them to read letters after lights out, that's against the rules. Please just send letters from now on" Also went on to say thanks for all our support. A real heartwarmer of a letter today. I am thankful.

I really like the idea of sending a box to someone who could use one. We've already told DS that anyone without parents during PPW that he knows of is coming with us...the more the merrier!

More than likely it wasn't b/c they were studying it was b/c they were sitting on their rack, which they most likely aren't allowed to sit/lay/enjoy until it's time for bed. I remember we didn't rate being allowed to sit on our rack until lights out.

Not sure why they moved the other plebe out...

One sitting on a rack is a No No. Two is a double No No. You don't sit or lie on a rack during the day. That is why they have desks, chairs and floors. Why they removed the roomate I don't know. She remembers some Plebes that didn't get anything during summer or 4/c year. We always sent extra and tried to get something to her for her to share. As I said it does happen. Just a heads up, Plebes do not get liberty for some long weekends in thei 4/c year (I think Easter is one big one). As we are kind of close we went down on long weekends and got takeouts from Pot Bellys or Subway for the Plebes restricted to the Yard and had a little picnic in one of the buildings for the Plebes in her Company. They appreciated the "real" food and it was fun to listen to them talk among themselves. Same for PPW. Take out some of the other kids from the company and just sit back and listen. It is so funny.:thumb: When they start to share with everyone else it goes really fast. Tell him to take the best for himself and then share the rest.

We decided to send a care pkg to our former-Mid's PO Box addressed to Midn Occupant. Hope they like it..

Subvet: As I stated before just take some of them out on PPW for a hamburger (Cheesburger Cheesburger is a good place with good Milk Shakes) or a cheap dinner at a chain restaurant and sit back and listen. Your MID alone will not tell you anything (or very little). Get a few of them together and after a short while they will not stop talking. The stories are priceless. Listen and laugh. Hide the recording device.
