I was just up at usafa for the appointee visit and had no service with tmobile. I am planning to switch to a carrier that might work better- does anyone have suggestions? Our tour guide mentioned something about new cell towers- does anyone have info on that? Thanks!

AT&T worked fine for me in 90% of the places.

I had no problems with Verizon. My husband was texting me during the entire tour. Ha!
Caveat - that's not to say there may not be any dead spots.

Son had AT&T with an iPhone all four years and lived in both dorms with Squadron 2 and Squadron 38. He never had a problem anywhere with reception.

Verizon is solid in Vandy and Fairchild, but it can be very poor in parts of Sijan. AT&T might be the best overall choice.

I asked a couple people on the tour and they all said AT&T or Verizon. The better of the two depends on exactly where you are on campus, but nobody mentioned T-Mobile or Sprint as an alternative.

I checked the coverage maps for all four and they all show excellent coverage around the Academy.

Sprint can be spotty in Vandy. DD has had it for four years. Freshman year was a bust-just about zero coverage unless she hung out the window. Texting was fine. The last three years she has been on the sixth floor and has had little difficulty.

DS has been in Sijan for all 3 years. Good coverage w/Tracfone (as C4C) and Verizon (C3C to present). DS is happy w/ Verizon's coverage, but is eager for contract to expire in September. He is thinking of switching to T-Mobile after talking w/his friends.

DS has had issues with AT&T in Vandy. We finally bought him a cell signal booster, and it worked wonders. If he leaves his room and walks into the hall though, the call gets dropped.

I am actually at USAFA now touring the place and I have had no problems with my Sprint coverage

T-mobile has problems in Vandy, LTE coverage is spotty, but outside of vandy you have at least 3G if you arent in a room below tzo level.

My son uses T Mobile. It's hit and miss and he does have a pretty decent phone. I think it's a crap shoot with whomever you choose. And I did read an article about a year ago that Colorado Springs is the 2nd worst area of the US for cell reception, 2nd only to Bakersfield, CA. God only knows what their problem is out there! Maybe the earlier posts about new towers will help that whole area because I've even had trouble when in the general area.

Change cell services after you get to the academy because you don't know where you will end up dorming. Vandenberg works really well with verizon and at&t. I believe Sijan is okay with tmobile and sprint. I know this because I had tmobile in Sijan, and it didn't work, so I switched over to verizon. Wait until you get your squad and dorm to change your cell service.

Thank you! I will definitely wait until after I'm reissued my phone to switch. Great advice!
