Certificate of Acceptance?

I received an LOA from USAFA in mid-November, and then in the following month on December 19th, I received the formal letter of appointment. Both of these were received on my portal, with no hard copy mailings from USAFA as of today. After lots of cross-country trips and navigating these forums, I came to my decision on February 25th and accepted my appointment to USAFA. I have received no further confirmation rather than the message on my portal saying "Welcome to the United States Air Force Academy" and just below "Offer accepted". I reached out to Team Blue on March 5th and received a generic response stating, "You will receive a certificate in the mail". There was no eta or any further information regarding when this certificate may arrive. I am wondering, when is it common to receive this certificate of acceptance? I have not denied my acceptance to other SA and universities, as I want to receive this certificate before I do so, in case anything happens.

Congrats on your appointment!! Take what you see in the portal as official and base everything off of that. The certificate aka BFE is just a formality, nice to have to hang on your wall, take pics etc… they send them out in batches. DS received his appointment in February and didn’t get his til May.

I believe you are over-thinking this. You're admitted. Nothing really wrong with waiting to decline the others, but it's good etiquette to do so. Others are hoping for openings at the other SA and universities that you've been accepted to and it might provide a spot for them. If you're positive this is what you want (and it appears it is), I'd think declining the others would be the right thing to do.

The certificate doesn’t have anything to do with your acceptance. You won’t get it until probably mid April anyway.

If this helps, I received my appointment late January and supposedly my certificate is going to arrive tomorrow (Informed Delivery). Not sure how the timeline of when they send them out works though

If you know exactly what your decision is — and you’re 100% sure — then it’s indeed good form to notify the other schools to which you’ve been admitted.

However, if you’re still up in the air, you've earned the right to use all the time allotted to make a decision. For most schools, that’s until May 1. By taking your time, you’re not denying anyone else of a spot. Schools manage to a yield target, knowing that some/many will ultimately decline their offer.

If you've accepted the appointment, I am hoping you have made a firm decision. If you're not quite sure, don't accept the nomination until you've made your decision.

I am not too concerned about the institution, but more for the young men/women trying to get into a school. Once you decline, they know for sure that slot is open. In this situation, one of the schools not notified is another service academy. If you've accepted another appointment, decline the other. It's just the right thing to do. Karma....

While that’s a noble thought, that’s not how it works. The academies have a specific number of appointments that they offer, knowing they will have declines and candidates with multiple academy appointments. Their number will not change if you decline an appointment, so they will not offer someone else that declined spot.

Your portal is correct. You were accepted. However, is you appointment conditional on your medical??? USAFA is mailing certificates now but is holding off on mailing certificates to those that are still awaiting a waiver, are remedial, or who have not completed their DoDMERB.

I was cleared by DODMERb over a month ago and my portal still says pending medical. My portal even shows medical received.

For those that have received appointment, conditional on DODMERB, and have subsequently received clearance from DODMERB. Has the condition been removed from your acceptance letter?

No, my appointment is not conditional on the medical. That was completed.

Yes, they sent me a new letter. The initial letter I got in mid-November had the conditional appointment clause in it, but after getting the medical completed (around the beginning of December I think), I received a new letter on December 17th without any conditional appointment clause.

I completed and was cleared by DoDMERB all the way back in August. This was when USAFA was #3 on my list which unfortunately for me I filled out their application last after USNA and USMA. I filled out and completed the USAFA application just a few days after DoDMERB went down in Mid-September I think. Although USNA and USMA received my DoDMERB within a few days of completing their application because this was before DoDMERB had any problems, once the system went down it took nearly three months for DoDMERB to just get the notification that USAFA needed my medical (I did have to send a few emails and make a few phone calls to make this happen). After a few days of DoDMERB receiving the notification that USAFA has requested my medical status, they sent it to them and it soon appeared in my portal.
