We have heard from a few people that it's possible to take your CFA at a CVW. Is this true? Do you have to request it? I have read through the threads and have found conflicting info.

I believe it is true for the CVWs in the fall, but not this spring. DS went last March and did not have that available. He was signed up for a November CVW as well, and the CFA was on the itinerary. He ended up not going though because his football team went far in the playoffs.

My DS did take the CFA at his fall CVW, but I think they do that for those applying for the upcoming class, so it would make sense they wouldn’t offer it in the spring.

I was not given that opportunity last March when I went to CVW. However I did do the CFA at NASS. I believe some were given the chance to do the CFA in November when I went again to CVW.

Ok, thank you all. I guess that's why the I fo was conflicting. CFA in the fall not the spring.

Which if you think through the process, it makes sense. Current senior applicants' admissions files are closed, and juniors haven't opened yet. There isn't a file to update the results to.

By the way, it is always an option not to take the CFA or not to 'use' the score. I recommend that my students prepare and then take the CFA at NASS and CVW. With a good score, you can use it with all of the other SAs (but not USCGA). Plus, USNA will allow you to submit a 2nd score later if you desire. I remind all of my candidates that the CFA represents a 'beginning' and a commitment to lifelong fitness as a member of the U.S. military. Good luck with your CFA preparations!

In can't speak to differences in what is offered at a fall CVW versus the spring, but I do know the cohort my son attended CVW with this past fall did not have many takers for the CFA when it was an option Saturday morning. All the parents I spoke with said their child thought it was super overwhelming and intimidating to take it at the academy...mine included. He took it with his football coach once he got home which worked out just fine instead. The option is nice if you don't have someone available to administer it at home, but unless that's the case I think most kids would probably rather not do it there if they don't have to.

I actually felt the opposite. I was looking forward to doing the CFA at the academy and not having to worry about scheduling it with someone else. The support and motivation that I got from the candidates around me, I know, helped me max out on almost every event. It was one less thing I had to worry about and it almost instantly was updated on my portal. I recommend doing it there.

Same here! Felt the exact same way. While of course it wouldn't make any difference in comparison to a CFA elsewhere, I thought it was an awesome opportunity to show out in front of Admissions Officers. The support from the other candidates I befriended boosted me and helped me crush it. As you said, since the Academy scheduled it themselves it was one less thing to worry about.

Also, I don't know if it was the same for you but we had pacers during the mile run. 6 minute, 7 minute, 8 minute, and I believe 9 minute pacers. It was really nice to know where you were at in comparison to each pacer.

Interesting to know what your experiences were...probably depends a lot on the personality/temperment of the applicant.

Yes, my DS was looking forward to completing the CFA at an academy. He will get a chance at USMA SLE thankfully.
