CFA at NASS

DD did the CFA today at NASS and thought she did pretty okay. Maxed sit-ups and at or slightly below the averages elsewhere. Does the USNA let them know verbally or something how they did while at NASS? Or is that something they just find out later through the application portal or elsewhere?

I'm at NASS as well. From what I understand they never tell you what score your raw score turned into on their scale, but luckily you can ask around and get a gauge for how you did!

I was wondering, too. My son took it yesterday with everyone else and received an e-mail today that said it was done.

One thing . . . while CFA is technically pass/fail, in this hyper-competitive environment, simply passing may not be good enough. Look at the max scores, especially in crunches, push-ups and the mile. If your scores aren't fairly close to those max numbers, you may want to consider additional training and taking the CFA again. You don't need to, but may want to in order to improve the overall competitiveness of your package.

My son is at NASS now. Nearly maxed out on push ups and sit ups. Ran the mile in just over 5 min, but only did 6 pull ups. Also ran the shuttle in 10:25 and threw the ball 55 feet.

I have a feeling those last three scores aren't too good. Should he re-take this?

My Mid got feedback from the Blue and Gold Officer regarding the CFA during the BGO interview. For WP, the receuiting officer indicated where things needed improvement (i.e., basketball throw). Hope this helps.

I heard this from my mid a few years ago-the different SA's place varying degrees of importance on different CFA components. It may be anecdotal but
he heard that from his BGO and then also from a coach at USNA.
He said the basketball throw for instance, is more important to WP than USNA.
He did great on push ups, sit ups & ran a sub 5 minute mile but could barely eek out 3 pull ups.

Not sure what his BGO said to him, but all the BGO sees is Pass /Fail. I seem to recall seeing a list of average scores promulgated in the past, but I really don't delve much into CFA during interview. However, as USNA1985 points out, passing or average may not be good enough. There are few ways to objectively compare Candidates , ACT/SAT and CFA being most notable. I attended BGO refresher training recently, and the Admissions rep told of at least one instance where the decision between two candidates came down to an event by event comparison of CFA scores. I suspect this is extremely rare, but the moral of the story is clear -- DO YOUR BEST and don't leave anything on the table.
