Out of the 3 areas - academic, leadership, and physical - my physical component needs the most work. I am not out of shape by any stretch of the imagination, but from looking at the goal scores that USAFA has posted on their website, I need a little more work I need to do. What did you guys do to get in better shape for the CFA? I have done weight training for the past 3 months and have seen little improvement in the exercises for the CFA, even though my strength is getting better in all the exercises I perform at the gym.

There are dozens of threads here on SAF about CFA advice, including several this cycle. Try the Search function here on SAF or an external google search with “site:www.serviceacademyforums.com” embedded in your Search string.

There are many YouTube videos on the various events.

Search for “Stew Smith CFA” and “Stew Smith [insert individual event, such as basketball throw]. Both online sites and YouTube. He is a USNA grad, former SEAL, now a fitness professional. Practice the events individually. Get the form right. Do an inventory full test just as you are required, once a week, to see where you stand and what needs work.

Listen to Capt MJ .

There is no silver bullet. There is no magical routine. Weightlifting is great, but if you want to get better at pull-ups - do pull-ups. If you want to get better at push-ups, do push ups...If you simply did pushups, sit-ups, pull-ups and ran 3 days a week - pushing yourself in all exercises, you will improve. Consistency is the key. Just put in the work.
