CFA - I Gotta Ask... Really?

When my DD took the PFA at the Summer Seminar, I think she did something around 32' on the basketball throw. It is not something she ever practiced. They told her at the academy that the PFA had to be uniform across the academies and that Army wanted the basketball throw included, Navy really didn't care. When they gave awards at the end of the week for top performers on the PFA, they excluded the basketball throw. She had no problem passing the PFA. All this to say that I wouldn't worry about spending a great amount of time on practicing the basketball throw. If she maxes the other areas, they won't care how far she can throw a basketball.

If your DD is applying to West Point also, they will care. If her BB throw is close to the minimum, WP may ask (authorize) her to retake the CFA. WP does weigh the BB throw more than the other SAs. Someone made the (tongue-in-cheek) comment -- "no one in the Air Force is going to be asked to throw a grenade." :p It's in your DD's best interest to get at least the average but aim for the max. Good luck!
Who told you that the basketball throw is worth more for WP?

And I agree with you ca2midwestmom, bma's DD should try to improve you BB throw score especially if she's applying to other academies. 33 feet may cut it for USNA, but it might not for other service academies.

One of the instructors told the group as a whole that in one of their general meetings. Perhaps if one were a MO the basketball throw would make a difference.

When I said "WP does weigh the BB throw more than the other SAs," I meant that the event was as important as the other events (not necessarily worth more points though), whereas bman's DD was told it was not as important (was that at USNA SS?). So even though the SAs all use the same CFA with the same scoring (although it appears they have different averages -- can't remember if their maxs are the same), some events (ie skills) may be more important to one SA over the other. Since most candidates are going to submit one CFA score to be used by each SA they are applying for (assuming they are applying to more than 1 SA), it just makes sense to aim for the max but get at least the average IMPO.
