Hi guys, I am getting ready to take the CFA in about a week. While I am confident in most of my scores, my mile time of 7:45 worries me. I had COVID not to long ago and I still have not fully recovered from it. Will this time be sufficient to pass?

Have you looked up the average mile time for appointed USAFA candidates? If not, there’s also the CFA instructions sheet for USMA, which includes average time. It’s a different SA, but close enough for your purposes.

Based on what you find there, you’ll know where you stand. I advised both my kids to submit when they were above average on every event. Passing is one thing, being competitive is another.

I know that I am below average on the 1 Mile. 2 months ago, I was above average according to the stats on USAFA’s site. I only have 10 days to submit my CFA though so I don’t have a lot of time to get it down. I would like to have a better time, but after COVID I just hope to pass, which was my original question.

Based on your recent illness would it be worth emailing admissions and inquiring about an extension for the mile? Can’t hurt.

I had a 7:45 mile exactly and was told I passed. This was for West Point and Usna, not Usafa, so the standards could be different. It'll also likely depend on your scores in the other events

Keep in mind that if you don't pass, they'll allow you to retake it. It should give you enough time to get your mile up, not saying you should rely on the retake though. Do the best you can the first time so you don't have to do the redo. I'm in the same boat as you since I've been unable to train enough for the CFA in the past couple weeks and mine's coming up on Monday.
