My son has worked on CFA all summer and is at least above average on everything, but knows he can do better on run (at 6.09) and shuttle, as well as bb throw. He maxes pushups and sit-ups, and at 14 pullups. He is a six foot athletic kid, but has had his share of sports injuries and is worried that he could get injured now that soccer has started. Thus, he was going to do CFA soon, to get a qualifying score, in case he gets injured later.

Question: since he has applied to usafa, usma, and usna, can he do the CFA now for one Academy, and then use it for all three in the event that he can't get a better score later?

USMA and USNA shares CFA score. A candidate just have to make a request to the admissions office to forward the CFA score to the other admissions office.

I not sure about USAFA.

OK thanks. So he could list his phys ed teacher with USNA, and usna will send the teacher info to do test, then my son does the test, the teacher submits scores to USNA, and then my son will then need to ask usma, and hopefully usafa, to get the CFA scores from USNA?

.....and then my son could still do a new CFA with any of the academies to improve scores later?

Either push or pull. USNA could send the score to USMA, but if USMA isn't tracking your DS USMA application it could get lost.

For USMA, it's a one shot deal. So if USMA gets the scores from USNA, your DS would have to request permission to take the CFA. Most cases USMA will allow a retake and the higher score stands. I am pretty sure USMA doesn't superscore CFA scores. For USMA, CFA is ABOUT 10% of the whole candidate scores, so unless you have a situation where one candidate barley passes and the other candidate maxes out AND they have very similiar academic and leadership accomplishment, the CFA score won't change the outcome.

Yes, the CFA can be used for all four academies. My son did his for USAFA and he called the USAFA and asked them to share his results with the other academies. They have all shown up in his portal.

A small, but important note: the CFA only pertains to USNA, USMA, and USAFA. It DOES NOT pertain to the other service academies (i.e. USCGA/USMMA) and NROTC. Do not call Admissions asking to have your scores forwarded to USCGA, USMMA, or NROTC (I'm fairly certain this might be true for all ROTCs, as well).

With USAFA, you only get one shot at sending your scores, so don't send them unless you are satisfied. You only get a second chance if they ask you to take it again. Good luck to your son.

Thank you.

Can you confirm that usafa will accept a CFA which was originally submitted to USNA?
