I submitted mine this past week and was wondering what kind of notification there would be for whether or not I passed. It's been green in my portal since the middle of this past week so I'm starting to lean towards pass. I think notification only may come upon failing but I'd like to know for sure. It shouldn't take too long to know this considering there aren't any video reviews involved.

Last year my DS only received a green check mark. In fact, after his interviews, which were completed by early September, he heard NOTHING from USAFA until the morning of March 17th, when his appointment showed up in his portal. It was so surreal.

There is ONE way to be sure you did NOT pass your CFA.

You receive a letter in your portal...you open it...and it "HIGHLY SUGGESTS" you retake your CFA. That's the "official" polite letter saying you DID NOT MEET ADMISSION STANDARDS in at least one or more of the six events and are no longer competitive.

If you receive this letter...speak with your ALO about it...make a plan, and then go crush the thing!!

It's your ONE "get out of jail free card" and you don't want to waste it.

When you say "no longer competitive" do you mean that you aren't competitive even after you pass the second CFA, or are you still competitive if you completely ace the second one?

If you pass the retest, you're still considered competitive. The premise is: fail the CFA, you're "not competitive overall" (because you failed the CFA) and you're dropped from the process.

You'd be surprised at how many candidates are eliminated for failing the CFA. In recent years...in my little part of the process, it's hovered around 5-10%.

So if I do not pass the CFA then will I 100% not make it into a military academy or do I still have a chance?

True story from last year. Had a friend who I was doing the cycle with. Great guy, was better than me in every category ( not being down on my self just, state runner every year, jrotc leadership, and better grades) took the cfa got 25 pushups yea that didn't work, did it again and got 35. The day he got his nomination form our senator ( IL soooo 600+ applicates) he's portal was shut down completely. This was three days before Christmas. He was crushed ( navy said we'll take him after he redid it again)

Pass your CFA don't treat it as pass fail. Some people here at the NWP have grades, and all have the character for the Academies but didn't have the physical fitness. No they don't tell you why we're sent to a prep school and what to work on, we're guessing. However it's the dark spot for them.

Pass your CFA with flying colors. Make them tell you no. Every. Single. Step.

If you fail the CFA, and if offered a retest you fail that, you will be dropped from the admissions process.

Oh, I thought I would still have a chance even if I failed the CFA... I'll just settle for VMI or Virginia Tech then. I have never been athletically skilled so I won't pass the CFA even if I did train.

If you aspire to a military career, you may want to do some more research. Military folks have an athletic lifestyle, regular PT is part of life, as are regular physical fitness tests (not the CFA, but not a piece of cake if you are not fit) that must be passed to succeed. It’s definitely a fitness-centric life.

VMI and VT are fine schools and good examples of their particular college model. “Settling” for them is not particularly gracious.

You may also want to browse the VMI YouTube channel and observe the VMI fitness test videos.

I am aware of VMI's harsh first year and some say it is harder than the service academies' first year. I just don't think I should finish my application process and complete the CFA if I will not pass it and get in.

Yes, you should quit. That attitude is a disaster and you should rethink VMI and VT because you obviously won’t be able to do their required PT either.

My son couldn't do the pull up part and he bought a self standing pull up bar. He maxed out on pull ups and his ALO said to do less to save his strength for the run. He improved his run time to be competitive the second time he took it. I assume you have normal health, you can absolutely do this.

Renegade...I agree with Lipton, "Don't Quit!!" You can do this! My son could not even do one pull up on the first test. He struggled and retook it and did 9!! It was a huge improvement in 4 weeks. If you have the tenacity to push yourself you can do it!!! He also bought an on line work out program that helped him do the exercises correctly. It was new to him, he hadn't been very athletic in the past (except running) and it was tough. Lots of sweat and tears but he pushed through. I am 100 percent of the belief that you CAN!! It's not a problem you can't overcome, it's a challenge to push through!! All the best!!
