DS has really good numbers in all areas of CFA except for the pull-ups (4) and pushups (30). Will he "fail" with these numbers or just receive a lower rating physically?

BTW--DS is a big boy--football lineman although not being recruited to play.

I would be worried about push-ups the most

I've seen posts about females passing when they are 12 pushups under the average but it seems that 24 under the average is a cause for concern

When I took the CFA over the summer, I was able to see the minimum passing scores for each category. From what I remember, for men, the minimum passing number of pushups was 30 and for pull-ups was 3 so your DS made it! As long as he did great in all the other categories, his CFA score should be passing. However, I know there is also a minimum total CFA score he has to pass, but I'm not sure what that number is. So if he just hit around the minimums for every category, it would not be considered passing.

Would be interested in what the other minimums were if you remember? Out of curiosity

West Point does not release the minimums, and though we can speculate what we think they are, we don’t know what they are for sure. Your DS should strive to hit the averages, which is what West Point wants. If WP wanted him to aim for the minimums, they would have released the minimums.

I appreciate you trying to be helpful, but if you read the thread no one is shooting for the minimums here, least of all my DS - someone said they had seen the minimums and I was asking them to share because there is no such thing as too much information in these types of forums - good luck to you!

Of course, I did not mean to imply that he was and I'm sorry if it came across that way! I wish him the best of luck as well.

Put another way, not knowing the minimums should push a candidate even harder to achieve the averages. At least, that's what it did for me any many others. While it may work better for some to not know the minimums, maybe it would help others. To each their own.

I agree that the goal should be to exceed the minimums and even the averages but in keeping with the OP’s original question, sometimes a Candidate will have 1 or 2 events that are their weakness and with the deadline approaching, very little time to retest - so my question was really one of ‘safety net’ and less regarding ideal test results - with WP, the CFA is a very small part of total WCS and if you pass at any level, they do not typically ask you to retest - for example - my DS took the CFA at NASS and passed with slightly below average scores in all events - We asked WP about retaking and they said don’t bother, not worth it but USNA wants and encourages him to retest, which he did and maxed several events and almost maxed everything else except sit-ups which were just above avg and are his weak area - so the takeaway for WP is that passing is passing and it would be helpful to know what that is,,,

FYI - USMMA and USAFA are also pass fail - UsNA seems to be the only one that encourages retesting to improve results

In this time of uncertainty for all of you candidates, just trying to add some clarity to a very uncertain time

Thank you all. . .pull-ups and push ups are DS weakness for sure. . .he's working hard and will video again next week.

Does CFA have to be done before DODMERB is uploaded? How long before DODMERB appears in candidate portal? Does DODMERB have to upload before application deadline?

So, the CFA and DODMERB are not related to one another. The DODMERB will be triggered by the candidate completing a sufficient portion of the application. The results of the DODMERB exam do not have to be submitted by the deadline: the reading & scoring of the DODMERB is not controlled by the candidate but rather by an external system. This is a busy time of year at DODMERB but I think any DODMERB questions can be answered in the section of the forum devoted to the DODMERB.

Service Academy will request DODMERB. My DS completed DODMERB way before CFA

Just to be clear, he will have to do the ENTIRE CFA over again, not just video the two he’s weak on (yet will need to revideo those, too!). It was my DS’ experience, and perhaps others, that DODMERB was triggered after essays were submitted. Are your son’s essays submitted to portal?

I thought is was triggered by the medical questionnaire being submitted. I forget already.

DODMERB is ordered for different reasons by separate academies. WP typically orders it when they have seen enough progress in a "competitive" file. The idea is not to order one for a candidate that will not complete a file and no longer wants to go. CFA can be done at any time and is not linked to the DODMERB process. WP likes to see CFA results posted early in an admissions cycle and they expect the candidate to stay in shape all the way up until R day. Generally WP likes to see files completed with 6th semester transcripts before the holiday break and field force reps are astounded every year when candidates still have open items up until application deadlines - which this year is 31 Jan with 7th semester transcript. DODMERBs can happen later into Feb and in few cases until May until the class is filled.

Yes, he is completing the entire CFA again. His entire application is complete except for the CFA. He completed DODMERB back in October.

Our understanding was CFA had to be complete for USMA before DODMERB would load.

My DS has DoDMERB well before submitting CFA and he is USMA candidate.
