CFA 'Qualified' = pass?

Hello everyone! I've made some posts on the USAFA board before but I'm not sure if I've brought my questions into the USNA board.

For some background info: Last week I took my Candidate Fitness Assessment with my HS gym teacher but my form was bad enough on the pull/push ups that there was no point submitting the scores. So, today I retook the test to try to do a little better. My scores were still quite awful for a male, but at least my form was good, so I think every rep counted. When my teacher submitted the scores, he did USAFA first. We immediately received an email requesting a re-take in the next 30 days, which I was happy to be given the opportunity for. Afterward, when we submitted them to USNA however, we received no email, but on my USNA portal it says 'qualified' in green on my CFA status.

I'm inclined to think this means I passed but it's a little hard to believe considering how bad my scores were, especially considering they weren't good enough for USAFA. Does this just mean they received the scores, or did I truly pass? In either case am I able to send the scores I achieve next month on my USAFA re-take? For reference today I hit: (42ft, 4 pullups, 9.49 sec, 87 crunches, 21 (yikes) pushups, and a 6:02 mile.) I'm pretty proud of these scores, even though most of them are way below average. I'm proud of how hard I trained and how far I've come. I couldn't even do one pull up a few months ago.

To the best of my knowledge, if you got the thing that says qualified then you passed. At least that’s how it was for me. Just keep training and improving your scores.

Why don't you go onto the USNA Admissions web chat and ask? It wont hurt and you will know your answer for sure.

do you know when the latest someone can submit their cfa is? I submitted mine a while ago for USAFA, so I'm just curious since you did yours a week ago.

I did mine today, actaully. USAFA emauled me saying that all additional requirements were needed before January 20th (tomorrow) and today is what worked for my PE teacher. I think the 31st is the date for USNA. Hope this helps!

gotcha. I honestly did pretty poorly on my CFA because I had an injured arm and knee, but I still had to do it because of the deadline. I was expecting to get a retake option immediately, but it still just says CFA received. I heard you can still get a retake after your file gets reviewed if they decide your CFA is the only thing holding you back. Is that true or can I only retake if I had gotten the option immediately after taking the test?

I know of one situation in which an LOA candidate was given an additional 2 weeks to retake the CFA. This was more than a decade ago, so I feel comfortable giving his background. This candidate had 3 noms from CA (that means both CA senators + his rep), and was outstanding in every way. He was a varsity lax player, but the goalie, so he didn't do much running. He did a practice CFA reasonably early, realized his weakness, and started training. However, by Jan. 31, he still hadn't qualified in the mile but a small margin. USNA gave him another 2 weeks. He did qualify and was offered an appointment. (He ultimately decided to attend a civilian university, and really, really got into sports and running, becoming a member of the varsity crew team at that school and a lifetime rower).

So, yes, it has happened. I don't know if it still happens but expect it does.

It is the EXCEPTION, not the rule. I've only seen it used in this one circumstance where USNA really, really wanted that candidate AND believed another 2 weeks will make a difference. The only other reason I can think of is when there has been a long-term medical issue such that the candidate really couldn't take the test for the first time until winter, times are improving, and USNA thinks another 2 weeks is warranted. AND USNA really wants the candidate.

For candidates out there, I would ABSOLUTELY assume Jan. 31 is the deadline. Do not expect extra time.

I have read on this forum (not too long ago) that a USNA admissions rep called a candidate and suggested he retake the CFA because the rest of his app was stellar.
