I am a female, and I just took the CFA for the first time today.

My scores are as follows:

B-ball throw: 42 feet
Flexed arm hang: 32 seconds
Shuttle run: 10.9 seconds
Sit-ups: 54
Push ups: 36
Mile run: 8:31

I did plug my numbers into the online calculator, and it said that I passed, but I wanted to make sure. I plan on staying in shape and continuing to workout, but if I probably have to retake it because of something specific, I'd like to know ahead of time so I can really focus on that area. Thanks for all of your help, and I wish everyone else good luck on their CFA!

Take that online calculator with a grain of salt. Its source and reliability are not fully vouched for and are not endorsed by SAs.

Instead, go to the USAFA website and see the actual averages published there. That’s your best barometer. Don’t get too caught up in the anecdotes you’ll see here, e.g. people saying they passed or didn’t pass and offering their numbers as a comparison. That’s a very small sample size that may or may not be accurate. Bottom line is, use the published info and any feedback your get directly from USAFA.

Please do post if you passed.
If not, please let us know which elements were disqualifying.

What to work on? Everything.
You will have to do PFT and AFT at USAFA.
Best place to find info on PFT and AFT is actually WebGuy! Right now you won't have access to the pictures (until you join and pay $), but you can read the blog entries.

Google "USAFA Webguy", go to Blogs, look for PFT days, early October 2020 and it will show average and max. Bottom line, it's "harder" than the CFA, IMO, because hitting all average numbers is just barely passing. For AFT, which is just a 1.5 mile run, the average is 13:31 and maxing is 8:55. Not only that, but you will take the tests when you're told to take the test. Regardless of how you slept, what you ate or didn't, what else you have going on - unlike CFA where you can take it at an optimal predetermined time.

This is definitely a pass, though more work could be done on the mile. The other events look alright. Nice job on flexed arm hang!

Thanks for your feedback. I have a black check-mark that says 'received and processed by USAFA,' whatever that means. I don't know what happened with my mile. For the Coast Guard Academy test, I got 11:53 for the mile and a half, which is faster than an 8 minute pace. Also, good luck with your application! I'd love to see you at the academy next year.

Might be passing scores although that mile time is probably a close call for USAFA, sit ups look low, and the shuttle run could be a close call. That, coupled with 0 pull-ups could leave admissions questioning commitment to fitness. You mention your CGA run, but USAFA won’t be looking at that score.

Comparing your scores to USAFA averages, you should be able to understand your weaknesses.

I would definitely recommend trying to get 1 pull up. I believe I have heard 1 pull up looks better than a maxed out flexed armed hang.

Just need to work on that mile and at least one pull up, but otherwise pretty good.

Here are my scores:

BBall Throw: 68'
Shuttle: 8.6 sec
Pullups: 13
Situps: 84
Pushups: 58
1-mile run: 5:59 mins

Pushups IDK what happened and why they're 3-4 lower than the average. How much will that matter?

I think that I passed? The black check mark still stands, and I haven't heard anything about rescheduling. Also, my fah was actually 33 seconds, not 32.

Submit these, you're done. 👍
