My DS just did his CFA at NASS and we were curious what folks thought about the following scores:

Bball Throw: 60
Pull ups: 15 (PB)
Shuttle Run: 8.2 (PB)
Sit ups 71
Push up: 75 (PB)
Mile: 6:15 (PB)

He felt pretty good with all except for the Situps and Bball throw. Just wondering about the additional value added in taking the whole exam again and trying to improve those when most of the other events were among his personal bests (PB) since training for the last several months.

Sufficiently competitive that if he has any real weaknesses in his application, he should focus on those items. But, of course, admissions can be/is highly competitive so picking up extra "points" where he can may be sensible. He'll need to maintain those personal bests or improve upon them to make improvements on sit ups and basketball throw worthwhile.

His scores look good. Best of luck to him!

The only caveat I would say is that in search of improvements somewhere, you could have a bad day in others. My son improved push-ups/sit-ups/b-ball throw in his second application, but had a significant decrease in his running (slower in both mile and shuttle). Almost to the point where he was worried about it even being passing. Luckily, it was, but if you look at the "point" scoring from the West Point thing, he was lower points overall because of the running even with the improvements in the other stuff.

Your kid's running times are great. And everything else is solid. I'd leave it alone, personally.

Oh, and once at the Academy, you don't do most of those things for the PRT anyway. It is cadence push-ups with a max of 60, a timed plank, and a mile and a half run. So, whole different ballgame.

The OP's scores are great for USNA -- well beyond passing. Go with them and have DS move on to something else.

From the calculator … looks great!

Those look really good. My DS had the following scores.
BB throw 54
Pull ups 6
Shuttle. 9.43
Sit up 60
Push up 47
Mile 6:56

These are almost all a PR and a huge improvement from his first CFA at Inspire. He was really motivated by his squad at summer seminar. It is such an honor and a great experience for them to be there. Best of luck everyone.

Where do I find that calculator?
There are for-profit service academy admissions/ROTC consulting and consulting firms out there. The calculator is not from an official source, and is not free, but these firms usually have people with the right kind of background experience to be reasonably reliable.

I meant to add - google “service academy CFA calculator.” You will likely find one at one of these company websites. It’s not a service academy website tool.

Could you make a copy that we could use? I would greatly appreciate it
It won't let me attach and excel file, but I've attached a screen shot that shows the formulas I used so you should be able to re-create. Only the G and H columns have formulas and the fields at the bottom are just sums. You should only need to change the values in the "Score" column. The values in the mean, max, and Risk columns are all hard coded. The G, H, and Sums are all calculated. You can add the conditional formatting if you want. I added mine to shade between perfect score and the Risk score. No guarantee on accuracy but it should be a useful guide.
