I took my CFA today and these are my scores.

Basketball throw: 78ft
Pull ups: 5
Shuttle run: 9.6
Push ups: 43
Sit ups: 45
Mile run: 8:06

I am a 17 year old male.
should I retake it or is this enough to “pass?”

thanks in advance.

based on what I have seen here and links on USMA for males, your score need considerable improvements in all events.

I pulled this from USMA site. What is listed below are the maximums, in other words, going beyond those doesn't get you any points or a brownie, but hitting each of those gets you 100% on the test. Mind you it also must have portions properly videoed and they will deduct reps if they don't meet a standard, so you must account for some loss, possibly.

You have time to train and continue to improve. There is no benefit in submitting a CFA with less than stellar scores. I cannot speak for you or presume to tell you what to do. I can say, that last year when our DS applied, his regional admissions counselor was very helpful. He emailed her is first test (informal, not 'submitted', just emailed scores) and she told him very firmly to get the mile to no less than 6:30. You have the time, keep training, and move some of those numbers. Your BB throw looks good, I think my DS was at a 69. Keep working, balance this with other components of your applications and schoolwork is what I would tell you if I were your mom.

Good luck, stay healthy.

Events for males, these are maximums:
BB THROW: 102 feet
PULL-UPS: 18
SHUTTLE: 7.8
MODIFIED SIT UPS: 95
PUSH-UPS: 75
1 MILE RUN: 5:20

I defer to all of the more experienced posters here. But I will say your basketball throw is not bad. I worked on that all summer, and I am an all county/state athlete in 3 sports, and the best I could muster was a 70. Are you a really big guy?

Yes I am pretty big I guess. 6 foot 1. I looked at technique videos for this event and found that twisting and using your core to launch it is more effective than throwing it like a football.

Yeah I realize that. I heard that CFA scores should be submitted no later than October so I don’t have that much time.

What is the source of your information? USMA and USNA is Jan end/feb end 2021 unless you have LOA that clearly states the date by which to complete your pending items.

USAFA has a date of Nov 1 for my DD b/c she used her summer seminar application as her prelim app.

I would recommend you to check each SA source for you and your portal.

I asked my Academy Liason over the phone and she said that it is best to do it by October so that is what am I trying to do.

Google “USMA CFA averages.” You’ll see a PDF document that provides average and max for both males and females. It’s extremely helpful in determining where you stand. You need to decide what’s possible and desirable in the time given.

I am just guessing the reason why would your ALO advise that.. it could be you live in the part of the country that gets cold come November. I am betting that most would advise here to submit your best foot forward and not rush.

Step 7 on this link

She said the earlier you get it done the less you have to worry about it. Also that DoDMERB can be scheduled more quickly when you finish it. I don't know, I will call and ask her about it tomorrow. Thanks

Totally agree with your ALO on getting Domerb early.. My DD still working to get her best CFA scores, the DoDmerb was done end of july. Of course she has submitted SAT scores, transcripts and SOE.

Is this your best effort for CFA? If you think you can train more given more time, I think most will advise you to improve your scores.

I would like to think of today as a practice run. It was 95 degrees out and i had a relatively stressful day as it is exam week. Hopefully I will do better next Thursday morning when its cooler and I get a good nights sleep beforehand. Thanks and good luck to your daughter.
