I realize no one can say for sure, but I'm curious as to opinions on my son's CFA scores. This is his 2nd attempt to get an appointment. His B&G officer said he would be giving him high marks. He as a 4.0 GPA in college taking Chemistry, Calculus, etc. - he tried to match Plebe year as close as possible. Good recommendations from math, English, etc. should easily get a nomination from at least one senator and our Congressman. Leadership, athletics, etc. are in order, but he is worried about his CFA score keeping him out. This is what he did in that regard.

BB Toss: 82 ft
Shuttle Run: 8.8 sec.
Situps: 95
Pull-ups: 18
Push-ups: 51
Mile Run: 7.27

Comments? Opinions? Anyone do similar and get in? Worse and get in? I'm more curious for my sake than anything else.

P.S. new to the community, please forgive if this post violates accepted forum protocols.

His scores are definitely passing, but I would also definitely try to get his run under seven minutes. That is the only one that stuck out to me. The USNA looks more at the Push-ups, crunches and the mile run than the other events so they should be his focus. I wouldn't doubt he could still get in with those scores, though!

Edit: Forgot to add, I ran a 7:30 mile my first time I took the CFA. I received an email a month or two later telling me my scores were passing but they wanted me to take it again to improve my scores. Ran a 6:00 (thanks XC). It can be done!

Unless he eventually wants to become a Marine and then the pullups (which was a very good score) becomes quite important. But one thing at a time I guess. Get qualified, a nom, and an appointment first. I agree the run time could use improvement. Pushups are probably good enough but will eventually need improvement as well.

He actually hopes to earn a medical school slot eventually, but if that doesn't work out he's all about surface warfare and command. He wants to go full career Navy.

Edit: should get Noms. Got both senators and Congressman last year and is even more qualified this year.

Took the CFA during NASS Session 2 and ran an 8:02 mile. Maxed pushups and pullups and came close on situps. Shuttle run was average and basketball throw was 75ft. Received my Offer of Appointment on November 6 despite my lead feet. Your scores look pretty good, and I would confidently bet they are passing. Good luck!
