Hello,

I just took my CFA with my BGO and I wanted to ask how competitive they are for a male. Here are my scores:

72ft BB throw
12 pull ups
9.5s shuttle
62 sit ups
44 push ups
7:31 mile

Since I am a college re-applicant, I might as well throw in my CFA from last year(remembering to the best of my ability):

63ft BB throw
4 pull ups
9s shuttle
55 sit ups
52 push ups
8:31 mile

I hear that the CFA is 10% of your application so it is better to focus on showing growth in more important areas like academics and leadership. While this may be true, I feel like as a college re-applicant, I want to show as much growth in every single area. I will retake the CFA but just wanted to get some opinions on this attempt.

.
Today I did 4 Sets of 40+ push-ups .... Not bad for this old man. (Although, I don’t do the the other 5 events. But I do get my cardio in on an Old Stairmaster.)

There are days I get 50+ over 4 sets .... Today must be my “Bad-hair Day”.

I suppose I will have to be the “bad guy,” seeing how the others have dodged the question. But unfortunately some of your scores a well under the competitive average, and while no one knows the exact “minimum,” it is still important to get as close to those as possible (or as far over them as possible). I would encourage you to practice and take it again. Pushups, situps, and pullups are easily improved through basic repetition. For me, that meant that ever time I passed through a certain door in my house I did 5 of each. Shuttle run can often be a matter of form, watch videos and practice. For running ... well, run. (Kinda hard on that one) The CFA may be a small portion of your application, but it is pass/fail, and you definitely want to pass as the admissions board uses it as the main thing to judge whether or not you can handle the extreme physical stress of firstee, doolie, or plebe year.

Don’t get discouraged, keep working hard and be intentional about improvement. And who knows? Maybe those scores will be alright, maybe they won’t. No one on the forum will have that answer.
