I have seen a lot of CFA talk on here so I thought I would share what my DS did that brought him up to passing. He has his 3Q letter from USMA so we know he passed.
1. He tried each of the events individually to see where he would be weak. He needed work on push ups and especially pull ups. First time he could do 3. The other events were pretty good.
2. He began targeted workouts that focused on pull ups and push ups and running. He ran 400 meter runs with only a minute rest in between to get him used to a faster mile pace.
3. A month from the time he had set to do the real CFA he started doing one mock CFA a week. This one is important! Actually doing all the events back to back to back is a whole different thing than doing them individually.
4. Result- Mile came down 45 seconds to 5:43 He got up to 8 pull ups. All other events slightly improved except shuttle but that was ok from the start.
Final Note- If you are a football player I strongly suggest you bite the bullet and get this done before the season. My DS was constantly beat up with small things like an elbow contusion that hindered the process and maybe hurt his results a little.
I know there are many other good ideas on these threads. There is a link to a video that shows how to do the basketball throw that instantly added 10 feet to my son's distance. There may be other winning strategies as well but this one worked for my kid...Good Luck
