Hello,

My friend asked me this question but I could not figure out how to answer it.
If a candidate maxes EVERYthing on the CFA exam, does he earn more "points" for his overall admissions process?

As for me, I am above average for everything on the CFA but am still concerned that my score is not good enough-- especially since its getting more competitive this year.

Thank you very much
Dave

Well, the CFA is worth 10% of your WCS, so assuming if you maxed everything then you would receive the full 10%. I'm guessing most candidates score above the posted average scores, so they probably receive 7% or so on it.

If you have already taken it, then there's obviously not much you can do, but if you haven't then I suggest muscle failure exercises. It will definitely help increase your score.

Yea thats a good point.
I also forgot to ask a 2nd part to that question..

If I have an above average CFA but still qualified for State competitions for a sport (swimming in my case), will that, in a way, "sort" itself out and improve my overall fitness score?

Remember that the 10% I mentioned above is only for your CFA results. Any sports goes into the 30% category of leadership I believe. Being qualified for state should strengthen your file.

but still

I am not really sure what you are suggesting there (CFA and STILL doings sports? lol!)

...But no, as far as I know, the CFA is just those separated 10% of the WCS. Doing sports will contribute to those leadership-related (extra-curricular-related) points, I believe.

haha thanks for the response.
However, this is what I was getting at:

IF a candidate had a mediocre CFA score but still managed to go to (insert huge athletic achievements..like Jr. Nationals or something)...would the Academy "pardon" his poor CFA because of his athleticism in another area?

If this is confusing, I apologize. This idea just popped into my head because I recall hearing this from someone at the Academy..

Considering that the CFA is a 'no nonsense' one shot physical test, I highly doubt that WP would ever bend the rule. Think of it this way: say you are a highly accomplished ping pong (oh, I'm sorry, 'table tennis') player. You make it to the nationals and win the whole darn thing. But that doesn't mean you can do an adequate amount of push-ups, sit-ups, etc.

I admit, not the best analogy, but it proves the point. Hope this puts things into perspective.
