Updated #2 to accepted waitlist. Also, we now have exactly 10% of the waitlist offers on this thread!

Hi! So DS just finished medical today and we tried to send documents to explain/negate asthma and ADD. I have additional documents as well. Has anyone tried to send them PRIOR to DQ? Can they still be sent following the exam if there are more? Trying to avoid DQ waiver timeframes... TY!

DS's asthma waiver was very simple and quick. Wait to see what they ask for. All they wanted from us was Pharmacy records.

Sent him to an allergy/asthma specialist this am for spirometry & evaluation. Had him take the results with him passing with 100% and notation by the dr that he never had, nor does he have, asthma. Hoped that helped...

Why do you anticipate he will be DQ'd for asthma? You will need pharmacy records if prescribed any medication for asthma (or inhalers), as well as ADD. They asked for my dd's pharmacy records from the Jan1 prior to her 13th birthday (to present). Also, get the medical records pertaining to why those medications were prescribed (asthma and ADD). And then wait and see if any additional medical tests are requested.

I don't know if it will help anybody in this thread, but as soon as my son made his decision to attend USMA, he declined his appointment to USCGA. It was a very difficult decision for him. He had always dreamed of going to West Point as our family has a 2010 grad, but his week at AIM last summer got him very enthusiastic about the possibility of a career as a Coast Guard Officer. We were all very honored when he received his appointment to USCGA back in December, and it was definitely looking like his chosen path until USMA checked in with an appointment in February. After about 6 weeks of deliberations, he made his decision to GO ARMY. Obviously as parents, we will always wonder what great opportunities he might have had had he made the decision to attend the Coast Guard Academy.

Anyhow, (possibly) there is now another spot out there for a well-deserving young person, and I hope one of you following this thread gets it!

Good luck in your future career in the U.S. Coast Guard!

Overprotective mom=my fault... DS was prescribed medication for ADD (no formal diagnosis procedure) after I told dr that his teacher was disappointed that he wouldn't sit still in class in elementary school. They seemed to "slow him down" physically, but made him feel terrible and had no impact on academics. We filled them on and off for two years, and then just stopped right around that 13th bday.

Same with asthma. My daughter has horrible asthma, and I told the Drs that I thought he had it too. He's had prescriptions during high school, that he didn't take, but it was nice to have them around just "in case" in my mind for both kids. I decided that I ought to take him to the specialist to determine if he really had asthma at all...since he never took a daily, never used the emergency, and was never treated for an attack. The asthma specialist did spirometry and said his lungs functioned better than most other young men at his age and height. He gave DS results and a letter stating that he never had nor does he have asthma.....

I was hoping to submit as much documentation as possible prior to the review to avoid a DQ and that whole waiver process. Worried he can't get that done before the May deadline if he gets offered a spot off the waitlist. Thoughts? Insight?
