I tried to find the answer by scrolling through some of the other posts, but was unsuccessful. For those attending NAPS, will they do 3 weeks of training at the CGA, then ship off to NAPS for an additional 3 weeks?

Sad to say that yes they do both boot camps unlike the other scholars NAPS CGA cadet candidates have 6 weeks of boot camp. My son experienced it last summer and he said the CGA 3 weeks were hell while the NAPs 3 weeks were not bad. During the 3 weeks at CGA there will be no contact at all till the hour long drive when they are reporting to NAPS where they can call. Also you can see them when they are sworn in at NAPS induction ceremony so we drove up and also dropped off his car plus the additional items he needed for NAPS. There are differences between the CGA list and NAPS. Also they are allowed a car while they attend NAPS which was really appreciated by my son as he could actually drive to wrestling practices as they are a bit of a hike to get to about 1.2 miles from dorm. They also get a phone call each Sunday during NAPS 3 week boot so that's nice. Don't expect alot of overnight or off base liberty at NAPS its pretty rare they are much more strict and they are located on a military base so access is required. For example to get a birthday ccake delivered we had to find a baker which had base access because the entrance is several miles from dorm. There is a NAPS parents facebook page which will be setup for incoming class and will have that information. All in all though my son has really appreciated his NAPS year and made great friends both in Navy and with other CGA cadet candidates. It's a special experience and as he gets ready to graduate he is glad he attended.

Thank you very much for the info. My son was just offered, and accepted, CGA Prep. As a recruited athlete he’ll be going to NAPS. Sounds like a 6 week grind, but more than worth it.

Depends on which sport. Not all sports go to NAPS - football, basketball, wrestling do I believe, maybe some track but I think soccer, track, and others go elsewhere.

Hi there; thank you for the post! My son was just found from his coach that he'll be receiving an appt to NAPS; I was curious when the coast guard piece of the boot camp began? Sounds like early July?

Hi, I just got accepted into NAPS to play football and was wondering if anybody has a son that also got accepted into NAPS and would play football as well?

I just tried sending a message but it says I'm not allowed to start a convo with you; maybe you can send me one to start it?
You have to have 5 messages (which you just hit) and time for a system, at least 7 days as a member (which you have), and time for a system reset. You should be able to send/receive messages soon.

NAPS students actually ship out a little earlier than the rest of the CGAS cadet candidates. Direct fleet and CGAS cadet candidates attending NAPS report on July 24 and NAPS appointments from USNA report on July 25. USCGA will transport him to NAPS and we were told we ARE allowed to intercept them at NAPS (or whatever prep school they are assigned to). Hope that helps. This means if he’s at NAPS he won’t be at the CGAS graduation at USCGA, since NAPS students ship out a few days before that.

The Academy portion is called SWAB Summer. NAPS will seem like a breeze in comparison.

My son will be going to NAPS to play football, too. It would be great if they are able to connect over the summer before going some way, even if it’s through GroupMe or social media. @rockout6ix on IG
