CGAS appointment

The reason I ask. She was award a full 4 year scholarship to the School of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering at University of New Orleans. Into the Honors program with Thesis. She has to accept this offer 5/1/17.

I don't have full statistics for CGAS, but 52 appointments were tendered to that program during Early Action and we usually give around 100 total.

46 CGAS wait list offers were extended during Early Action and those applicants must accept their spot by February 1st.

I'm not sure but would this information from EA help at all, @USCG Master? I couldn't find any info on CGAS waitlist for RA. Last year, about 60+ kids were sent to CGAS, so I'm assuming they're hoping for a similar yield this year too from the 100 or so total appointments given between EA and RA. Honestly hard to tell how likely the waitlisters would come off the list.

No problem. See will accept her Scholarship to the School of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. I do not know why issue wait list for Prep School if no one comes off it!

USCG Master, Please quit stating that no one comes off the CGAS wait list. I'm the advisor for CGAS students at MMI, and each year I do see students come off the wait list. Granted, considering there are 60 to 70 students in CGAS in any year, the number of offers from the wait list isn't that big. However, offers come at almost any time up to R-day.

Having said that, your daughter will be in a wonderful program, and if she is still pursuing a CG commission, there are other paths.

I apologize and thank you for the information. Prior to you saying you have seen some come of the list, no one said that before. Being that 46 are on the wait list from EA. May I ask you a question. Is CGAS for students who came in with weak scores?

I honestly can't say, since CGAS is used to fulfill several requirements, and students are chosen (or not chosen) for a variety of reasons. I have had students with low scores, but I've also had a significant proportion with scores in the 1200-1500 range. I have seen that students who successfully complete CGAS have a strong retention rate at the academy, with many chosen as leaders with in the classes.

I wish I could be more specific, but I have no input as to who or why someone is chosen. Any ideas on my part would be pure speculation.

Since 2/1/17 has passed. Some one must know if the class is full.

Oh wow that is exciting news! Congratulations! Do you know if she was a borderline case to begin with? I remember it happened to another young man last year too, and his stats (test scores, GPA, EC) were truly impressive. He didn't sound like he was CGAS bound to begin with; glad CGA made the switch for him in time. Maybe that was the case with your DD too? Great news for you either way!

I'm not really sure. She is a recruited athlete too. Just ecstatic of the change in news!!

I have a couple questions regarding CGAS waitlist since you seem to be familiar with what's goes on to does who wait:

Around what time do you typically see waitlisters get off the list? Also, do you know what determines who gets out of it?
