I was wondering if we are awarded CGAS and get a 3.0 gpa at the end of the year would we be required to accept our appointment to CGA or could we apply to West Point?

If you successfully complete CGAS, you must accept the appointment to USCGA. My son was CGAS and is now a Firstie. It is always possible this has changed, but I doubt it. If USCGA has invested the money in you, they want the return.

The "contract" that our applicants sign when accepting an appointment to the CGAS Program stipulates they will accept an appointment to CGA if one is offered at the conclusion of the program. In addition, since they are on active duty in the Coast Guard, any student in the CGAS Program would need to be released from obligation to the Coast Guard before they could go on active duty in another branch of the military.
