If you get offered CGAS, when is the report date? The threads on here are a bit confusing. It sounds like you show up to I-Day for swab but then you go to NAPS after 1 or 3 weeks. This may be a possibility for DS (hoping opportunity is offered). What is the date you report to CGA and what is the date you'd then go to NAPS? Maybe I've misunderstood these but if anyone can provide clarity I'd appreciate it. We're trying to plan our summer.

Also, if you go to NAPS under CGAS are you Navy Reservist or CG? What is your status?

Thank you.

All CGAS report to CGA for a 3 week condensed “swab summer.” They do not train with the swabs and are not trained by a completely separate cadre. This training typically starts about 3-4 weeks after swab summer begins. Following their completion of CGAS, scholars depart to their respective prep schools. I don’t have exact dates but it’s usually immediately after CGAS ends. In essence, if your DS get a prep school spot, he will be gone from roughly mid-July and onward.

As a scholar, you are an active duty enlisted member of the Coast Guard at the E-2 level and are paid as such. The school you attend is irrelevant, NAPS is simply the academic/athletic institution used by CGA for their future cadets.

Thank you, this is exactly what I was looking for!
