CHALLENGE COINS!

I also have my name tags from every command, including OCS, some in color (because Navy didn’t get too upset about them not being standard black), most with the tiny ship seals or unit devices, and my job. I want to mount them together. Another COVID project.

Looking a few clicks down the road, what are some of the things I can do with DH and my challenge coins short of taking them to metal re-cycle at county center? I am slowly de-cluttering our home or making notes of options and resources for when it is time.

There will be no one in the family who will want them or mean anything to.

I can’t even think yet about all the plaques with real brass not just laser-cut wood. Some are gorgeous.
Perhaps you and DH can throw a couple of coins over your shoulder at the Trevi Fountain. May all your wishes come true!

I had a coin from the Commissioning Ceremony of the USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN-78), which I attended. I gave it and ball cap to a third grader on a return sub gig. The kid was an aircraft carrier enthusiast and knew of the FORD commissioning. He informed me that the ship was nuclear powered and rattled off the names of a couple more nuke carriers. I though he’d appreciate the coin than others. Who knows, he may be lurking on the forum now.

As an afterthought, I miss the PCS days when we could seriously light-load and declutter.

Clearly they must each be awarded to SAF members!

That was pure misery. We went from a 7 bedroom house to a 3 bedroom townhouse but only the master is set up as a bedroom as we each have an office. The four kids rooms plus so much of the stuff that we had from when the two of us combined households made for a lot of STUFF. We spent months at it which included dozens of dropoffs at Salvation Army, Goodwill and local groups as well as many private sales though Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, etc. The cash coming in from that was primarily used to pay the two helpers that we utilized as my wife and I could not have done all of it by ourselves. We each had moved numerous times in the past but this one was much harder but we ended up much better off. We got rid of so much to fit our new place (plus a storage unit. . .) but now things are more manageable.
Having other folks do the yardwork and shoveling is a big bonus.
