Hello

I am a re-applicant for the 3rd time. I graduated highschool in 2012. Currently completing college slowly....

Highschool stats:
-GPA: 2.81
-ACT: 31
-4 Advance Placement Classes
-Liberal Arts Subjects
-Captain of 4 Varsity Sport Teams
-Participated in 5 Varsity Sports
-Marching Band Drumline Leader
-Participated in 5 Music Programs
-Executive Student Council Treasurer
-Raised $20k Senior Year
-Completed Over 500 Hours of Community Service
-2 Clubs
-Heavy Involvement in Church
-Part Time Job

College Stats:
-Colleges: Eastern Michigan University, University of Michigan Dearborn, Henry Ford College. Roughly 50 credits
GPA: 3.0ish
-2 Clubs

After highschool i found myself lost. I changed my major twice. I finally settled on Economics and Political Science. I switched schools as well.

I ended up in jail for 8 months due to me wandering upstairs in a frat house party. Police called it a home invasion first degree. I violated my probation because marijuana was in my car. I spent another 5 months in jail. Got a minor in possession of alcohol too. My criminal record is all expunged from the public but still viewable to the academy.

I am going slow and performing poorly in college because I build 3 businesses that generate over 100k net profit each and it consumes my time. My businesses are in distribution, branding & marketing, and software services. I have over 20 employees. The only reason im going to college is to get an appointment, otherwise it would be pointless to me.

I recieved a nomination from former Rep. John Dingell in 2013 but was never able to complete my application due to me being detained in jail. I do volunteer work for new Rep. Debbie Dingell.

I was adopted from romania at 11 months old. I want to make a career of the military because i want to protect Americas beliefes and interests, the same ones that gave me life from a very poor Romania.

So my poor gpa and criminal record stand out as issues. But my business ventures and heavy highschool ECs are strong. I am first in family to be in college.

I can think of 100 more paragraphs to write but ill end it here. Open for discussion. Please give your honest opinion thanks

I have two questions for you. One is, how old are you? Because if you haven't reached the age limit yet you most likely will within the next year. My next one is, why start over?

I'm not trying to offend you or anything, but I am genuinely curious about your situation.

Yikes!

First, I do not see how you get multiple offenses expunged. A home invasion is a felony. Even if reduced on a plea, and if granted Holmes Youthful Trainee status (available in Michigan ), violating probation would result in the offense being entered on your record. With the addition of the MIP, it appears highly unlikely that you have nothing on your permanent record. But even if it was expunged (a huge if), I must say I would personally be very disappointed if USMA allowed someone with such a checkered past at such a young age into the academy.

Don't get me wrong, I think people can make mistakes and grow from them. As a judge who handles, among other things, juvinile cases, I see many excellent success stories. But a place like WP needs to draw a line, and there are thousands and thousands of kids with amaizing accomplishments who don't have any baggage.

Your academics are also weak, both at HS and college, and moving around from one school to another could lead to a raising of eyebrows.

You obviously are a capable kid, with a tremendous amount of potential, but as far as chances for USMA, my suspicion is that it is poor. Not trying to be a jerk, just want to give an honest and straightforward opinion, for whatever it is worth.

Well, it is certainly worth the effort to try. WP admissions makes the decision, not anyone on this board. And perhaps they will look at it as you having reached a crossroads and becoming a new man. It's just a very competive process and you have some big barriers.most candidates will have stellar resumes, and absolutely no criminal history. Most will have never even been reprimanded in school.

All you can do is apply and see what happens.

Quick question @brovol , i am curious what you mean by reaching a crossroads and becoming a new man? Is that a bad thing? Can you elaborate?

Every moc can nominate up to 10 candidates to fill that spot. However whoever fills that spot must become fully qualified by the Academy standards. Even principal nominations must be deemed 3 qualified.

Have you heard of people getting an appointment with a low gpa? If so, how low of a gpa have you heard?

I do have a plan B. I plan to transfer out of my community college to a university. After getting my degree apply for OCS. Is it possible for me to do ROTC if i transfer to a university as a junior?

Yeah its possible. I personally do not think the Army is looking for officers with your record. Maybe just keep working your businesses.

You might want to check to see if you are even eligible to enlist. You may not be.

If the OP gets a nomination to an SA the system is even more broken then I fear!!!

I have checked with all academies and they all offer a "moral evaluation committee" for people with criminal records. Ive been told by councilors that they have accepted people who have rappped another person. All depends on the situation. So still worth the apply.

What a shame that you didn't come up with a different user name and used your real name in your post. A quick Google search pulls you up right away with an article on your crime spree, with your picture, and your question on College Confidential where you asked this same question a couple of years ago. Please contact the Mods and ask for help changing your name.

In all of your applying to West Point, did you ever contact Admissions to see why you are consistently being turned down? It's great to believe in yourself but West Point has thousands and thousands of candidates to select from that don't have the character and academic blemishes that you do.

Regardless of a plea down, the military considers the original charge. Felons haven't been able to join since the surge.

You seem strong in business, maybe finish college with business degree and find other ways to serve your country?
