I am very new to all things military, so I'm open to any and all advice. I have not included any information about 12th-grade classes or ECs as AFROTC does not look at that. Thanks!

Demographics: Asian/White Female
GPA: 3.94
Rank: Unknown
School: Independent all-girls school in NYC (it is one of those feeder schools, so classes are very challenging and competitive)
Courseload: My school does not offer APs, but I have taken the most challenging classes available to me. I am not planning on taking any AP exams
  • Accelerated math
  • Advanced computer science
  • Spanish III, IV, V
  • Regular English and history (no other options until 12th grade)
  • Regular physics, chemistry, and biology (no other options until 12th grade)
SAT: 1560 (770 V, 790 M)
Intended Major: Electrical Engineering
AFROTC Interest: I am most interested in joining the Space Force
PFT: Incomplete, but passed the CFA for USNA
Interview: Incomplete
Clubs:
  1. FTC Robotics Team (10th, 11th): 20-40 hours weekly
    • Helped build and program a robot to compete with other teams
    • Junior captain in 10th grade
    • Senior captain in 11th grade
    • Lead programmer in 10th and 11th grade
    • 7 city-wide awards (1st, 2nd, 3rd only)
  2. Student Tour Group (9th, 10th, 11th): 3-5 hours weekly
    • Give tours to prospective students and families
    • Vice president in 10th grade
    • President in 11th grade
Sports:
  1. Varsity Soccer (9th, 10th, 11th):
    • Captain positions are not awarded until 12th grade
    • Several championship awards (within our league which is admittedly small)
Volunteer Work:
  1. Meal Packing (9th, 11th): 2-6 hours weekly
    • Packed hot and cold meals for the elderly and housebound in NYC
  2. Math Tutoring (9th, 10th, 11th): 1 hour weekly
    • Tutored middle schoolers at my school
    • Chosen by my school's math department
  3. Physics Tutoring (11th): 1 hour weekly
    • Tutored ninth graders at my school
    • Chosen by my school's science department
Employment:
  1. Alpine Ski Race Coach (9th, 10th, 11th):
    • Coached 8 and 9-year-olds at a local mountain
    • Trained new coaches (teenage and adult)
    • Semi-related, but I raced competitively (state level) for six years and did freestyle skiing (jumps, spins, rails, etc.) for one year
Other: I'm not sure if these have a spot in my AFROTC application...
  1. I'm a member of a maker space in NYC, so I spend a lot of time there working on projects independently (LED tree, ball balancing robot, custom parts for the robotics team, video game dev, etc.)
  2. During the summer, I take engineering-related courses at a local college
  3. I rock climb on my own, usually 2-3 days a week
  4. I've participated in USNA Summer STEM and USNA Summer Seminar, which I think are competitive programs (?)
Skills??:
  1. Computer Programming: Python, Java, C++ (plus two other languages that are specific to a course I took called Nand2Tetris)
  2. Language: Spanish (proficient, but not fluent)
  3. Engineering: Raspberry Pi, breadboarding, soldering, digital logic

Pretty good. I had the same sat score and around the same GPA as you, and I was able to get the 4 year AFROTC scholarship. Air Force also value STEM, so EE is a good major for AFROTC. Make sure AF is where you want to be though.

I feel pretty strongly about doing AFROTC. However, I am most interested in serving in the Space Force. I know the line between AF and SF is gray, but do you think this changes my application prospects at all?

Don't forget that you can get the AFRTOC scholarship on the AF side and still commission into Space Force 4 years from now.
That's the goal! Do you know if the academic/physical standards vary between AF and SF? I know that last year, only 60 out of 1,000 AFROTC cadets commissioned into SF, but I don't know if that was self-selection, or if it's just a very competitive program.

Your academics look great. My SAT and GPA were both lower and I got a Type 2 (Air Force) scholarship out of high school. Only thing I can think of is that there aren't a ton of athletics on there, so make sure to crush your PFA and try to be captain of your soccer team. If there are more opportunities for you to participate in sports or some type of athletics, I would try to work that in. Cross country or track and field can be good for that.

I imagine that commissioning Space Force vs. Air Force are about the same competitive-wise. Fewer people think about the Space Force as an option. They are much newer, thus smaller, and needing time to grow. My nephew is currently enlisted Space Force, having transferred from the Army, and loves it.

hi! im also applying for rotc scholarships this year :) would love to connect and talk in dms to share our experiences + application advice for one another! dm me - its not letting me private message u!

That's my concern too...Unfortunately, captains for the soccer team aren't announced until this year, so even if I were awarded the captain position, I wouldn't be able to include them in my AFROTC application. That's why I'm wondering if I can put rock climbing down to beef up my sports section, but I don't know what section that would go under in Activities. Any thoughts?

It seems super cool! Especially nowadays with satellites, ICBMs, cyberwarfare, etc., it seems like SF will be increasingly important.

Sounds great! How do I do that? I'm pretty new to this platform.

Putting rock climbing down should be fine. Not sure what section it would fit under specifically; it's been a while since I applied lol. Is there any way you can add some complexity to it other than just going by yourself 2-3x a week? For example, teaching younger kids to rock climb, or starting a club at your school? Something so that there is some leadership aspect involved since it is one of your only athletic positions. Also, if soccer is a fall sport for your state and you are awarded the captain's position, that is something you can mention in your interview.

Good idea about mentioning soccer in the interview! Unfortunately, rock climbing is more of a hobby than anything. I just do it for fun and to improve my strength. Hopefully, I can try to slot it into my application somehow. Thanks for the advice.
