I want to attend West Point or do ROTC at a civilian college, but I have been DQed by DoDMERB for allergies and astigmatism. WP has requested a waiver for me and I am requesting one for AROTC myself. I would appreciate it if someone could tell me what my chances of getting a waiver are because all of my college choices are either service academies or schools with ROTC and I may need to take a second look if the military isn't going to be an option for me. Here's a little medical background:

I have astigmatism in my right eye only. It is very hard to correct but it isn't that bad; my right-eye vision is about 20/50 with contacts and 20/40 with glasses. Also, I am heavily reliant on my left eye (which is 20/20 corrected with either glasses or contacts) so my vision with both eyes is virtually 20/20.

I take allergy shots for my allergies, but I have no history of asthma and my allergies don't interfere with my ability to play outdoor sports like football or soccer. I also have reason to believe that they may lessen or go away if I move to a different area, because my doctor says that the city I live in is one of the worst places in Texas for allergies.

Thank you for any help you give me. I really want to serve my country and would hate to be denied the opportunity because of a few sniffles, but I am prepared to handle the truth.

Generalities would be hard to provide you accuarte information. If you provide me your full name and last 4 of your SSN, I wil be in the office within the next 2 hrs and can give you a more accurate read of the situation. Pls send to Larry.Mullen@dodmerb.tma.osd.mil:thumb:

Wow, I didn't expect anything that official. Thank you very much.

I have replied to BigE off-line. Again, the continuum of conditions, diseases, illnesses, and injuries are all different for different people. So, I avoid misleading the audience.

EXAMPLE: An ACL repair for an 8th grader that then goes on to play 4 years of varsity football in HS, is different than an ACL repair for someone 1 month before they report to a Service Academy.

The same holds true in this casse for allergies and astigmatisms.:thumb:
