Hello everybody, I have a question regarding my overall application to the USMA

With my first semester of college being just about finished, I ended it with a gpa much lower than I had hoped for. With the grades I expect to receive, I will mostly likely have a 3.1. I did not do well on my math final which hurt my grade a lot. I understand that West Point wants highly competitive candidates and this is actually my second time applying. I applied in high school, received a nomination and was academically qualified and physically qualified, but was ultimately rejected. My new SAT scores come out to be a 1280 out 0f 1600. The deadline for the application is late February which means I have one more possible opportunity to get my SAT scores up as high as possible. If I were to get my SAT scores up dramatically, is there a chance at admission? Also, I am currently involved in the Army ROTC Program at CSUSM.

High School GPA: 3.81

English - 3 credits - A
Military Science - 3 credits - A
General, Organic and Bio Chemistry Lab - 1 credits - A
General, Organic Bio Chemistry Lecture - 4 credits - B
Calculus - 5 credits - C

The C in Calculus probably hurts, but the only way to get a feel for your competitiveness is to talk to your RC. Taking the SAT again can't hurt and it might help.

Do you have a nomination? Have you completed the application?

You'll be a longshot, but they do tend to admire perseverence. Get that SAT up to 1300-1350 and you will have a better shot.

3.1 doesn't doom you, but keep trying to raise the bar. The high school GPA''s will dwarf it, but if you've challenged yourself in college they'll take notice. Good luck.

That C in Calc hurt you. There is nothing wrong with graduating on a ROTC program. Keep to it and work hard.
