Update

NOMINATED to the USMMA as the top pick for Mr. Weber Congressman 14th district of Texas.

We are here at KP on a visit with my DS right now. We spent the entire day talking with current students and admissions folks. We had lunch with the Regiment. They only accept 250 out of over 7000 applicants. Based on what I've seen in your posts and my observations from today I would suggest you get a back up plan.

Are you sure it's 7000? The Class Profile indicates there have been around 2000 applicants, around 700 fully qualified, and around 400 offers of appointment. ~250 is the number of P/C's that end up reporting in. If you are fully qualified, mathematically a candidate stands around a 57% give or take a few percentage point depending on the year. The appointment yield has been around 60% +/- a few points depending on the year. Even though mathematically a candidate stands ~57% chance, factors such as state/national rank can affect the percentage. An example of this would be two candidates with same stats applying from South Dakota and New York. The candidate from South Dakota has a much higher chance than the NY applicant as there are far less applicants (if any) from SD than from NY in a given year. Admissions has stated their most competitive states are New York, Texas, California, and Florida. States that border an ocean and/or have a large military presence generally get more applicants than the other states.

Instead of congratulating me on my nomination to the US Merchant Marine as a top pick you give me your uneducated pessimistic garbage.

As the figures clearly indicate...

There are ~7000 inquiries per year...

about 2,000 actual applications...

and half of those are incomplete.

Of the 2000 actual applications, many don't receive nominations or a physically/academically unqualified.

The real nitty gritty is 400 acceptances for 700 qualified men.

Wow. I have been reading posts on these forums for the past couple of years and this single sentence post from an applicant presumably seeking guidance is simply stunning.
