I am a rising junior with a current 1480 sat score along with a 5.17 GPA on a 5 scale and a 4.00 on a 4 scale, I most likely will not get Top 10% in my school due to its hyper competitive nature. I have various leadership ec's such as being a 1st sgt in my CAP sqdrn and also founding my local ARC team and few technical ones such as being in a probable worlds qualifying vex team. I also am on my schools swim team and hope to get varsity next year. Are there any areas where I can improve in? Any help will be appreciated.

Are you taking your school's challenging courses in STEM? USAFA looks at this. I would suggest doing so the next two years to demonstrate academic capabilities and a willingness to be challenged.

I plan to be taking engineering problem solving courses along with calculus and advanced physics courses

No one will be able to tell you what your chances are exactly. The stats seem good so keep doing what you’re doing, get the SAT/ACT as high as you can and get ready for interviews. You can find class averages online

I was appointed with similar stats to yours, I had a 1480 SAT, 4.00 UW GPA, 4.8ish weighted GPA (uses a 5 scale) and was also 1sgt at my CAP squadron. Don't take that as a guarantee of appointment but just know that you are on the right track.

Now you need to start connecting those ECs and scores/grades to your future at the academy. One thing I wish I did was get started early on my statements. Don't just list qualifications, go in depth as to why they have qualified you for an appointment to USAFA. Write about unique experiences during your time as 1sgt that challenged you and your staff, and how you handled those problems. Talk about what motivates you to study or work out and what drives you to be an officer in the AF/SF. It doesn't even have to be a polished essay now, just put as many ideas on paper as you can and pick what you think is best.

Your credentials look great. But as noted, only AFA Admissions can provide the definitive details when you apply for an appointment. I suggest preparing well for the CFA, including long distance running. I advise my students to work up to 10 miles per week. Also, continue to find ways to expand your résumé and make an 'impact' in your current roles. Good luck!

Boys / Girls state next summer, cross country and spring track will really help with your CFA. Volunteer Fireman is great, lifeguard/swim instructor, or any part time job. Breadth of experience is of value.

It boils down to Athletics. Academics. Leadership.
