I was curious to see if you guys would know my chances for an AFROTC scholarship.
ACT: 30
PT: 1.5 mile- 9:31, push-ups-60, sit ups- 50
National Honor Society Member
Community Service Officer and Administrative officer of NJROTC Unit.
Weighted GPA: 3.96

Already had interview, felt like it went well.

if there is anything else I need to list, just tell me.

Forgot to add major. History.
I know, it’s a nontechnical and it will hurt my chances.

This is a common ask and the short answer is - We don't know. It depends.

It depends on your interview and many factors, and hopefully it's clearer in your application than your brief post on where did you excel as a scholar, athlete, leader? How many honors/ AP courses did you take?
Sports participation: Athletic leadership - captain? Martial arts? Bocce?
What did you organize/ lead vs participate in during your service, E/C, classroom activities.
How did your interview go? you think well -Good, that will be a big factor.
Hundreds of hours is great but where did you organize/ lead - what impact/ result did you have? Did you convey that in your app?
Did you convey a compelling reason why you want to serve in the Air Force in your app/ interview?

Look you made it through the application so you have a chance. Your weighted GPA is good. NHS does help, but is common (More than a million members including my DD and you) but yes it helps. Your ACT is sufficient. Participation in NJROTC and with a leadership role is very good.

Non-tech candidates and scholarships are both less common but it's great you are pursuing a major you actually want. I think that's a positive in the end.

Did you apply for other branches who are less tech-major focused like AROTC, and I suppose NROTC NO and certainly NROTC MO to a lesser extent than AF? Did you apply to the SAs? If your goal is to serve, and you have some gaps in your application vs some of these top of the top candidates with 3 sports, NHS leadership, officer in multiple clubs, 1550+ SAT, 35 ACT, etc. then consider applying through as many avenues as you can.

Just for you to internally consider- how many medals do you wear on your NJROTC uniform? Don't have to answer back actually, but fyi I ask because I've seen a correlation to those who can't get through a medal detector because they have more than 15 medals displayed winning scholarships, but then coming in overconfident and underprepared, and scrubbing out within 3 months for NROTC and AFROTC, (no examples from AROTC that I'm directly aware of). Sharing that as a reality check and in sincere hopes it encourages you on the winning piece and warns you on the reality/ risk that you had best overprepare vs think your NJROTC means you're better prepared than the people to your left and right who may not be members.

Thanks for your willingness to serve- keep exploring all avenues and best of luck/ keep the board posted please on how this works out.

Hi - Congratulations on your achievements. As stated, nobody knows about your chances. So much is up in the air. I've seen mention that after scholastic achievements (GPA and ACT), the Board is looking for athletics and leadership. From your description, you may be a little light on the athletics compared to some of your peers, but the JROTC, with leadership positions, may make up for that.

Best of luck.
