Hello all,

Yesterday I received my senator nomination for Illinois. I am 3Q for USMA and am now just waiting to hear back for appointment. My ACT is a 32 and I have a 4.00 GPA with numerous varsity sports and leadership positions. What would be a rough guess for admissions chances for me?

The group you are in now, has been whittled down to what you could consider to be "the finals". There are still several thousand of you in this category (triple-qualified with a nomination). There is no way to set a statistical probability, because the admissions committee weighs a number of things that are important to them, in order to round out the incoming class.

The class profile on USMA website lists 2228 as 3Q with a nom. 1210 were admitted.

Does 3Q also include medical waivers? Or is that only with people who never got a DQ?

Medically qualified means being medically qualified, if you have a waiver then you're not medically qualified yet.

Class Profiles
True, but that's the class of 2022. Those cadets started 4 years ago.
The latest class is 2025 with 13,984 applications started resulting in 4,056 nominations with 1,890 qualified and 1,214 being offered appointments.

So I guess one could say that the probability could be in the 65% range, but there are lot of unknown factors that go into choosing the makeup of the class. Being 3Q with a nomination is certainly a good spot to be in though, because it means you're not out yet.

Just adding in, 1214 is the number that was reported on R-Day. No way that 100% of those offered appointments chose to attend USMA and followed through. USMA is really good at sticking to about 1200 every R-Day, which is why you hear about those magic "last-minute appointments" in May and even June. Probably around 1400-1500 were offered appointments, based on previous class estimates. I don't know why USMA doesn't just report both the appointment number and the matriculant number, but who knows.

If I have a nomination from both my senator and congressman, does that effect my probability of being appointed?

Absolutely. That's a really good point which I completely forgot about.
They do offer a lot more appointments than they expect to to see show up on R-Day.

I expect that is good news to someone who is 3Q with a nomination. ;)

The waiting is the hardest part. It seems a bit early to put this out there but maybe it is necessary. Lots of appointments will be shipped out and reported here over the next four months. In truth, you may be waiting until the week before 1 May. (Even after that a few appointments are offered). So, tuck in for the long haul. You will know by 1 May. It is hard to wait but only gets harder as the Admissions team tries to build the perfect class. Hang in there. Keep Faith.

same here. from my local field rep data, 70% of 3Q get appointed.

My son had senatorial and congressional noms for USMA and was still disqualified. Point is, you can't just assume anything with this.

Norm regardless how many is only one factor. Point is whether he is 3Q'd? Norm does not auto 3Q you. Even 3Q+Norm is not guaranteed for a spot.

Yes, he was told "due to an assessment of academic record". Makes no sense because his record is outstanding. I'm not sure...
He may want to wait a day and then reach out to his admissions point of contact. Ask for an honest assessment as to how he fell short (if he did) and where he could improve.
