Hi, I have applied for Early Action and was wondering on my chances of getting an appointment for Class of 2021 or a scholars appointment.
Here are a few of my stats:
3.8 GPA unweighted (4.17 weighted)
#11 in my class out of 444
Student Government- commissioner of Community Service, Student Store, and Rallies
Senior schedule: AP Government/ Economics, AP literature and composition, AP Physics, Student Government, AP Computer Science Principles, Trigonometry
I have taken 4 college courses (3 psychology and 1 criminal justice) I have a 3.9 College GPA
Varsity Water polo 3 years (captain for 2)
Varsity swimming (captain for 2)
Frosh cheer (captain)
JV Cheer (co-captain)
422 community service hours- cabin leader for science camp, junior lifeguard, serving the homeless, mentor for swim team, and more
Lifeguard and swim instructor- employed with two cities
Swim Team and Water Polo coach
I have been recognized by my city and my district for a possible spinal rescue while lifeguarding
President of National Honor Society and founding member of the chapter at my school
Member of California Scholarship Federation (6 semesters)
I have been qualified for DoDMERB
I attended the Genesis Invitational for being a first generation college student
I am updating my file every so often- I keep in contact with my AO to tell her about my grades and to ask her questions
My first quarter grades was a 4.5 GPA which I've sent to the Academy
PFE score: 235
Now this is the part where I lack- 21 Composition ACT and 1080 SAT- they are extremely low due to lack of experience of standardized testing (coming from a private school that doesn't focus on standardized testing

I had my interview two weeks ago and I believe it went well. I am completely serious about going to the CGA and this is the only service academy I want to attend. I have expressed this to both my AO and the two gentlemen I had my interview with. I have a loud voice and I am not shy what so ever. I am a well rounded student and I succeed in almost everything I do, except standardized testing. My math and science grades are bad (mainly A's) and I am planning on being a government major.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
(Please be completely honest, fluffing answers won't help you, especially at the Academy)

They take a look at the entire package of a candidate ... it looks like you're a great fit obviously the scores are pretty low ... but everything else looks great ... having the Genesis visit and being female (assuming from Cheer ... forgive me if I'm wrong) will help as well. When your AO reviewed your stuff did they give you any hints whether to go EA or Regular?

My AO hinted to doing early action and offered to look over my personal statements. I was fortunate enough to see her on my genesis visit then see her the following week, along with Mr. Pinch, head of the diversity outreach program. Even before meeting me, she met my mom first and said I had a great personality (just from reading my emails). I've been very consistent with emails her which she has taken note of.

While on my visit, I was able to meet the head of the humanitarian's department along with the Model UN direction and then sent a follow up letter thanking them. I understand it's not who you know but it was worth a shot.

Also I had my application in early October then less than two weeks after, I received information about DoDMERB fairly quick. I was also quick getting my appointments scheduled (which shows I don't wait) so hopefully that sends some positive things about me.

Do fool yourself... networking and being known for who you are is very important... you have added a human dimension to your otherwise piece of paper application ... all your actions speak to you wanting to be there ... keep the course ... keep positive... don't be surprised if you don't hear about your decision until late - based on application submission date ...

You sound just like my DD! She's struggles with the test scores too. Works hard to try to make up for it since she feels she's topped out. She's a math whiz but a slow reader so she can't get through the test in the time given. For years I nagged about reading when all 4 of my kids were younger and they found other things to do. Now it has caught up with all of them. I hear a lot that if just one area is lacking, then prep school is usually offered. If they want you enough, of course. From what you're saying, it sounds like they'll want you.

Are you signed up to take the ACT and SAT again?

Were those your Sept and Oct scores for SAT and ACT respectively?

No December testing?

I'm not taking the December SAT since I feel I would get the same score. I have taken the SAT three time and the last two times, I got the same score. My highest score for SAT was from March since my June and October scores were worse. I have only taken the ACT once and that was in June.
