Chances? (Yes this has been overdone)

Regarding prayer, I tell my son and others, "There are no atheists in fox holes, or on cutters battling 30 foot waves." My dad told me that one...he knew because that helped him get through the Bulge back in '44.

So I got my SAT results and I met my goal!

CR: 660
W: 640
M: 600

Hitting a 600 on the math was my goal! I stayed the same for critical reading section but the math score overshadows that!

My Math went down ten points, but my cr went up 50 :D my writing went up 10. I will be taking it again in december.

CR:630
M:630
W:540

Excellent! Congrats on hitting that 600 level.

The mean SAT scores for Class of 2012:

Math 639
Verbal 617
Combined 1256

Make sure you submit that new score to #5807 (USCGA SAT Code)

So for some reason or another my PFE has gotten pushed back to either this Monday or Tuesday! YIKES! Hopefully, I can convince my parents to overnite the package so I know that it will get there by Nov. 1 but I cant help but worry about how close to the deadline I am hitting everything. Good side though, I improved in pushups by 7 or 8 and situps by about 15 so Im shooting for a better score.

I could be wrong, but I think that on the USCGA website it stated that the package has to be postmarked by Nov. 1, not arrived by Nov. 1st. After all, it is a Saturday. I too, will be taking the PFE tommorrow, so I hope that is the case...I will have to doublecheck!

Good Luck!:thumb:

To have your application considered for Early Action, all forms (high school transcript, personal essays, teacher recommendations, activities form, etc.) must be received by 1 November.

No. It definitely says that.

The supplemental forms package that I downloaded from the website with the recommendation forms, PFE forms, etc says "All forms must be postmarked by February 1, 2009 (November 1, 2008 for Early Action) for you to be considered for an appointment to the U.S. Coast Guard Academy.

The page in the application where you download the forms package says "You must print, complete and return the following supplemental forms by February 1, 2009 (November 1, 2008 for Early Action)."

The Application Process page in the CGA website says "November 1: Deadline to submit all application materials for review under Early Action."

I can't find anywhere where it says that they have to be received by November 1. Where are you getting that from?

Q: What is the Early Action Program? Is there an Early Decision Program?

A: To have your application considered for Early Action, all forms (high school transcript, personal essays, teacher recommendations, activities form, etc.) must be received by 1 November. We will give you our decision by 15 December. If you are offered an appointment as a result of the Early Action Program, you have until 1 May to accept or decline the offer. To qualify for Early Action, all prerequisite tests (SAT I or ACT) must be completed before the 1 November deadline, that is, you must take them no later than October. (Those not offered appointments under the Early Action program, are encouraged to re-take the SAT I or ACT exam in both November and December to strengthen their chances of receiving an Appointment.) The Academy does not participate in "Early Decision."

Q: What are the deadlines for application?

A: To qualify for the Early Action program, all of your forms must arrive at the admissions office by 1 November.

Okay. I think this warrants a call to the admissions office on Monday morning. I'll let everyone know what I find out.

It had better be postmarked. How can you possibly guarantee that it is received by November 1?

If you accept an appointment, you will learn quickly that:

"Early" is on-time.

"On-time" is late.

The definitive answer can be found by calling your Admissions Officer.

Because Nov 1 is a Saturday (and the mail room at the Academy is closed on Saturdays) they may have modified the date that they will accept them. The Admissions Office would know for sure.

In any case, why take the chance? Priority Mail to arrive by Friday solves the problem. :thumb:

Tell your parents it's worth the few bucks to overnight it...think of the FREE education(ha ha).

Everyone here is trying to help you. It means what it means. Do not wait until the last minute for something this important. November 1st means November 1st. Earlier is better than postmarked dates to show you want to be at USCGA.

To guarantee that admissions receives you application and forms by Saturday November 1st you should go to Fedex, DHL, UPS, or Post Office no later than Thursday October 30, 3pm. Pay the price of overnight and signature deliver in order to guarantee that Admissions receives you information. Make sure you keep your receipt just incase. Things can happen with overnight deliver.

Good luck and let us know what you do!

I just got off the phone with the admissions office and the definitive answer is... it must be postmarked by November 1, not necessarily received.

I sent it by certified priority mail on Saturday morning, so it really should arrive today or tomorrow, but knowing our post office, there is a good chance that it is still sitting here waiting to go out, so it makes me feel a lot better to know that even if it arrives after November 1, they will still accept it.

So I woke up this morning psyched to take my PFE and guess what? Its POURING RAIN OUTSIDE!! I must have the worst luck in the world! I am definitely doing the pushups and situps today because its inside. If at 2:00 (when I am supposed to take my PFE) its not raining...im heading out! My mom got really mad and me and said that now we have to overnight it but I told them I would pay the overnight fee so there not so mad haha.

Just suck it up and do it in the rain. What are you gonna do when you are up in Alaska on a cutter in the rain/snow?

My daughter took her CFA in January - it was in the 20's with a pretty stiff breeze.

I have no problem doing it in the rain, its the wind I am worrying about. The wind will throw my time off and I am afraid that it will look as though I am not as physically fit as I know I am. When I run practices like this for track and its in the wind, it throws my time off severely because there is always one spot on the track where the wind is against you. I do not want to jeopardize my chances just because of the weather.

:unhappy:Agree with you T&F...I am a runner and nothing worse than wind...I have run in rain and snow but windy conditions are really bad.

Thanks for the understanding boss! lol...Ironically, as soon as I posted this message...it started snowing and pouring rain...and the wind speed was like 40 mph...there is no way I would run in that! Im not that crazy! Hey, if its raining tomorrow, would it be against the rules to run the 1.5 mile in my schools gym? 22 laps equals 1.5 miles, the school has it measured out for gym classes. Although, I would probably get very bored...
