My son is patiently waiting to hopefully hear good news from the Academy. Here are some of his stats:
Class rank 3/575 in very competitive HS GPA 4.54 W, 4.0 UW
4 AP classes this year, 2 last year, honors in all other sections
ACT 34 (all areas above 30, math 36, science 34)
SAT 1440 (not including writing portion)
Eagle Scout, also in Venture Crew (shooting sports)
4 high adventure trips with scouts
Attended Summer Seminar
NHS (committee chair also)
attended leadership workshop sponsored by a univ.
Lettered in cross country and track, scholar awards too
Volunteer at church, food pantry, with scouts, peer tutoring
Job spring thru fall--lawn care for neighborhood clients, pet sitting yr.
round

CFA--maxed mile, above avg. on 3 events, at avg on rest
Just cleared medically on Dec. 3 for leg issue

No LOA, but noms from cong. and 1 senator (in our state you either get
1 sen. or none, but not both--they coordinate noms.)

Reading on these forums about cutbacks in class size makes one nervous--any thoughts on how he might rate?

Looks good from here

Your son's stats are really impressive, but I'm not on the acceptance committee, so my opinion means nothing. Nevertheless, your son's scores are high enough to get in almost any college in America and be eligible for all kinds of scholarships, aid, etc. I hope he has sent applications to other universities and applied to AFROTC. As is said often on this site, make sure you have a contingency plan in place. Good luck to your son and welcome to the board.

Let me say I am glad you are not in our district.:wink::shake:

Mikeandcris, he definitely has backup plans including AFROTC, and has been accepted at 2 universities. We're waiting (a pattern is developing!) to hear about AFROTC scholarships also. Thanks for your feedback. Like many others, we'll keep patiently waiting for news!

There are no guarantees in this business, but your son's academics stats are better than mine.

What part of Ohio are you from?

AMEN

Let me say I am glad you are not in our district.:wink::shake:

Amen to that, he makes me look like an idiot and underachiever. No one here is on the admissions board, but it sounds like he has equal or better stats than most other candidates.

"Just cleared medically on Dec. 3 for leg issue."

With that out of the way I'd be optimistic. It's hard waiting...
