Change on Status

Same Here

Hi my son's status shows the same as you all was just wondering if any of you have heard anything different. thanks

Nothing yet, believe most of these appointments go out 2 week of March.

Thanks for the input I guess we can stop stalking the mailman for a few weeks.

They're on the way! Just got a thin letter in the mail today from our MOC that he's gotten the AFA Appointment! :shake:

Waiting now on the fat envelope. Good luck to the rest of you - it's a great feeling.

Congrats! :thumb:

Just curious, what does your status say right now on the AFA website?

No change. As I posted on the other forum, we too saw the status change about two weeks ago to "Candidate Complete". The MOC appointment letter came yesterday, but dated 2/28. As of today the USAFA website has NOT been updated to reflect the Appointment, nor has the fat envelope arrived. So you can indeed hear about the big A from your MOC before the web is updated or the mail arrives. So hang in there!

Some exciting news coming through this thread! Fair warning, it is NOT a "fat" envelope. It is a big envelope (like maybe 9x12 or so) but it doesn't have tons of stuff in it. In fact, for what it is - it is amazingly skinny. D's was grey and only had a single page letter in it and a thin folder with minimal information in it. Picture a letter on the outside of a folder your child might have inside their school binder (folder has a pretty AFA picture on the outside!) just not much data on the inside!

Just trying to give you specifics so no postmen are tackled unnecessarily!

Wow Exciting stuff, grats to all those who got appointments we'll be waiting here and keep you all posted.

Appointments

I asked my ALO last week if he had heard any news on a possible appointment for my son and he responded...

I have not heard anything from the Academy. I do know that all of the appointments have not been offered as of yet.

I'm not sure what percent of the appointment offers going out this month have already been made but hope that those of us that haven't heard yet will get good news shortly.

Had my spouse call the admissions guy today, (lax season is on son is out at 7am home at 7 pm) - son sent transcripts a month ago with a better class rank and it had not updated --so they are finally going to update his class rank. But the guy told my spouse that they are winding down on the cycle and most of the appointments have been selected. That they still are having boards, when a person is selected they give the MOC 7 days to notifed the person. Then they will change the website to appointment offered after those 7 days.

So I think it is over for us.....on to UF with ROTC.

They funny thing is my son defines the average cadet. USAFA Average GPA 3.6 --son's GPA as by USAFA 3.67. Son's ACT composite 31, math 29. USAFA math average ACT 29. Top 9% in class. 9 Varsity letters and team captian of 2 HS sports teams. Went to SS last year. His friend and classmate who is 2/288 in the class, higher SAT score 1400+, boys state, co-captain of lacrosse with my son and went SS with son, hasn't heard either. His mom thinks it is over too!

Not so fast...

I was under the impression that anywhere from 200-400 of those offered appointments would refuse them for some reason and futher appointments would be offered to alternate candidates as they became available. I thought that the final pool of qualified candidates with nominations was somewhere around 2,000. If roughly 1,300 appointments were offered and 300 not accepted, 1,600 of the pool of 2,000 would have the opportunity to consider an appointment.

There is still hope for those who have not heard anything yet. Am I mistaken?

Yes, there is hope, but deposits for housing are due and other things need to be done. Spring break is here so we need to go and make sure UF is the one. FSU has offered more money and so has IIT with room and board offer.

If it happens I will be shocked, so a legacy kid can be rejected!

Hi, I don't understand. Is there NOT a mass mailing here at the end of March ?
Have most of the appointments already been sent out ? I thought from previous threads that a large majority of the appointments all get mailed out at once right around this time frame ? thanks.

It happened mid-March, there are a few more to go but the bulk have been given out. The MOC have or haven't notifed those people--they have 7 days to do so. Then they will update the website.

My son's ALO, no matter how wacky he's acted, called us from his cell phone standing in the middle of the admissions office to let us know that our son would be receiving an appt. (to keep him out of USNA:shake: ).

Haven't seen anything in the mail or Fedex, but his site did change to state appt. offered. Hmmm.

Justawife-

Congrats on ROTC @ UF! That was my son's first choice for Navy ROTC, but he got Univ. of Minnesota.

Taken from the USAFA website, citing statistics from the class of 2009:

Applicants –9601
Candidate Pool – 6809
Qualified Candidates – 1928
Offers of Admission – 1746
Total Admitted – 1390

As you can see, from the pool of qualified candidates, almost 91% got an offer of admission (1746/1928) with roughly 350 appointments either declined or initial appointees unable to report. Using this data, one can expect that between 80-90% of those in the current pool should get an offer, with roughly 300 candidates getting an offer after an initial appointment is turned down.

Texas Dad, I do not doubt those stats, but that year according to our ALO was unusual. The Academy normally admits about 1200 students. In the year you cite, the Supt. was allowed to surge this class for a specific reason - something about the number of people accepting pilot slots were down because the AF increased the commitment for pilots - so the surge was in response to something like this and was a one year bulge. Normally there is a 300 to 400 person gap between the number of qualified candidates that the total number of appointments offered. With the mass mailings behind us, it looks like my kid is going to be one of those gap fillers.
