Change To "Hold"

Best of luck privateer

Home is western Missouri. Not a big merchant marine state, however a lot of riverboat-barge people on the St Louis side mean there's at least some competition.

Privateer, let me know how this pans out for you. I have an specific interest in USMMA Missouri Families- will explain should you get in! Best of luck to you!

Thanks

Thanks to all who are posting with encouragement and advice, this is a great site.

My son and I are both posting under this "handle", we should probably each get our own. He told me he received a letter today confirming what the online record says re: "hold"; evidently still in the hunt in state and nationally.

So how does it work if we received a nomination but are still completing the application?

application

I'll leave it to the pros on the board but I think you're OK, you have until March 1 to finish up. Everything you read here says don't delay, which of course makes sense.

advice

cgaviator and Privateer (and everyone in this application process),
Best advice; get everything done NOW.
Do not wait... do not dealy... get it done NOW.

Given the advent of rolling admissions by USMMA, and the reportedly small class size being considered this incoming year, this has to be considered the best advice anyone has recently given on this board relative to seeking admission to the USMMA Class of 2017. Amplifying, remember most nominating authorities notify the USMMA of their nominees by the third week of January and virtually all are done by March 1. So in many, many instances I believe State quotas and all nominees from many States will be done shortly thereafter. If that supposition is true, it really would behoove an applicant to have a completed file - all items - in the admissions office within the next three weeks vice waiting till the deadline.

Worry about becoming a "true Kings Pointer", procrastinating to the last available minute and "cramming" to just meet the deadline after you've been admitted - better yet don't start that till you get past the "plebe killer" courses and are sitting at home after your last ship or back at KP after your first sea year working to finish your sea project.

In our day, the Great Neck Library was full of anxious cadets on any Sunday before term papers were due on Monday. . . . . I know I was one. But I made money once my papers were done because I was one of very few touch typists. Buck a page, buck a pitcher at happy hour. It just can't be a coincidence.
