They have introduced a new role called "ALO Mentor" and "Evaluator". ALO will not do an in-person interview rather Evaluator will do an interview over Skype or FaceTime!
Any thoughts?

Yep, I heard from the head ALO of my region. The idea is that it will remove any bias in the interview process and provide a more consistent approach to admissions.

so academy is now going to offer appointments without even seeing the candidates

??? They will still have an ALO. But, it sounds like another person will conduct the interview via Skype. Don't know why, but it may prevent family friends, acquaintances, etc of the ALO from gaining an advantage (Not saying there has been.)

Yep I just see last night something like this when my DD receive her Candidate status :), I'm old fashion, I think person to person interview is better for knowing a candidate...just me.

When son applied to WP & USNA, he had the interviews at home. I was a little surprised at first (cleaned entire house for days), but turned out to be a very positive experience. Me too, I prefer old fashion interviews:)

My son's ALO had moved out of state. They did a Skype interview. It was a little awkward as I think in person is better but he dressed up and approached it like any other interview. I don't think they developed a relationship like I hear others did on this forum but he did get his appointment - class of 2020.

My son had three different ALOs during his application process and never met any of them until after he had his appointment. He had no ALO interview and did just fine. The process changes and you just have to work with what you are given. No amount of fretting is going to change that.

USMA has been filling their class for years without a mandatory interview. If I recall correctly, USCGA does not do one either.

My guess is that AFA wants to have consistency in the process. I would view this as a good thing.

This sounds like good plan. I like the idea of consistency and a fair evaluation. Also bonus.. kids will only have to get interview ready from the waist up, no shoes to shine or pants to press. Ha,ha

I'm totally going to do my interview in full service dress uniform. Infact all my interviews will be in full service dress. I think it will let the interviewer know that I am serious.

Without going where I'm not permitted...

Trust me; this has been a HUGE source of..."discussion" among the ALO force for several months already. Everything folks have asked or thought out-loud here, has been aired (and then some) by ALO's across the globe.

At the end of the day, this is what it is and we'll all salute smartly and press on and this cycle will be viewed/reviewed/analyzed next year to see if this is the way USAFA should proceed, or not, or ?

I've been an ALO 22 years...the process has changed several times in that period...don't worry about it, it'll be fine.

Just have a few growing pains to deal with; that won't affect the candidates!
