Since there has been some great chatter, congratulations and questions on the 2026 USCGA Appointment Thread, and requests to keep it strictly for updates, it seems like a new thread would be helpful.

I enjoy all of the chatter and I think that’s what a forum is supposed to be about.

Let the chatter continue here . . .

I like the chatter too! I remember how anxiously I awaited any info about appointments this time last year. I say “I” because my son was pretty chill - plus he had his MOC nomination interviews and civilian college applications to focus on. I knew how much he wanted the CGA, though. What a relief it was when he got the appointment notification! This year, it’s thrilling to see every update to the appointment threads for the CGA as well as the other academies, and to see these brilliant young people winning ROTC scholarships. I cheer for each and every one of them!

I'm going to assume the notifications will pickup again on Monday after the academy returns to work
I am not sure! Last year, there were no reported notifications on this site for the entire week after Thanksgiving. So, if last year repeats itself, we won't see any new appointments until December 6th! ugggggghhhhhhh.... the waiting!

Anyone else receive the big fat envelope containing the brochure with an invitation to apply? I wish that mailing list was cross checked against the applications submitted so that kids (& overly anxious parents😳) don't get excited over something they already have received previously or at least know about.

Yep! I heard that other people received it last week. So, I was totally prepared for it not being what I was looking for.

I have heard that Boys/Girls State and the Billy Mitchell Award (civil air patrol) can add significant value to the USAFA application. Does the same hold true for the USCGA application?

I heard from CGA admissions (CAPT Fredie I think) that the Mitchell and Eagle Scout awards are both very highly valued in the application. I can only assume Boys/Girls State helps too.

So we received email confirmation of decision and that info was available on portal. When we logged in we had to confirm address and that we were still interested in attending the Academy. So based on our experience I would guess BFEs will not arrive before electronic nomination. Just my guess based on our experience.

Congratulations and all the best!

Regarding BFE's. Oversized envelopes may arrive in your regular mail from admissions soliciting applications. But an appointment envelope will be impossible to miss or mistake for a regular admissions mailing. It is a big thick oversized folder that will come in a cardboard envelope sent by priority mail.

You can sign up for the Post Office's Informed Delivery service where they put pictures of your mail online before it gets delivered, but even then people have been surprised by a BFE appearing on the doorstep. Lots of stories over the years, so once you launch that app just take a moment to be proud of what you've accomplished, invest yourself in your senior year, try to stay loose and let the chips falls where they may.

its not clear to me why those were highlighted. is it a rolling process at this point until end of Dec
There was a Cadet for a Day visit on 11/29 and 11/30. I think USCGA knew those 6 were going to be there shortly after their decisions were made so they decided to give them in person. I think that was the case for the first 2 that were listed on the page as well.

I finally confirmed my son received his conditional acceptance! Medicals are scheduled for 12/7 so hopefully that will go well - however he filled out the materials on his own and I know he incorrectly stated he had ligament damage 3 years ago in his elbow :( so I am sure we will have to deal with that...

How did your son find out?
